How do I fix sloppy shifting
Ive got a 74 f-250 390 4speed tranny. Granny low,Granny reverse I believe it is an NP 435 My ???? is How do I fix the very sloppy shifting The stick is very loose and has lots of play.
Any info would be hugely appreciated

[font color=red size=2]I have a '73 F100 390 with a T18 tranny. I've had to repair my sloppy shifter a couple times now. The T18 has a pivot pin that goes through the trans collar and the shifter pivots on it. As the shifter pivots on the pin, it slowly wears away at it. So I removed the shifter and slid the pin out (carefull that it doesn't drop into the tranny) and replace it. I haven't been able to find a replacement part for sale, so I find a long bolt of the exact diameter (use only the smooth part - with no threads) and cut it to length. My shifter does have some play in it, but it's 29 years old, the new pin is a dramatic difference.
I'm not sure how your tranny compares to my T18, should be something similar.
