Do '97 Explorer's have a chipped key?

Do '97 Explorer's have a chipped key?
So lastnight someone decided to pop off the lock cylinder and pop the trim piece off the column. There is tool marks on the cylinder on the column. Are these guys morons or were they SOL because there is a chip in the key?

I'm not sure. 98's definitely had PATS keys, but 97 may have had it as an option. Does your Explorer have a factory security system?

Not that I am aware of, it does not have keyless entry.

I have a 97 XLT with factory alarm and door keypad. My keys do not have chips in them. Got the extra keys at Walmart and the work fine.

Nope. 97's (at least the one I had) didn't have chipped keys.

Mossberg makes a good 12 guage bat, and Colt has an excellent .223 Bushmaster bat. Both are very effective on thieving scum.

In late 97 this was put on limited and eddie bauer models. but nothing else.

As njf207 said, only the very late 97's had it.

I've been looking at a DEI alarm with the remote and remote start on it. Might be something worth looking into.

Of course, like Jerry said, Colt makes a good .223. I personally like Bushmaster and Rock River Arms, but to each is own. My choice is a Kimber .45 .......

1997 Explorers no chip in key, time to get a couple of pitbulls and your security issues are solved... LOL
