Well, my truck was limiting itself to 40mph and bucking like a bronco, so I was kinda depressed. I borrowed a timing light from somebody because when I checked the timing in order to solve the starting issue, I was afraid I had not put it back correctly.
Turns out I was pretty close, but I should have scribed a better mark for reference.
Any way, a friend of mine who has good mechanical experience was helping me out and we took a look at the carb. Dig this!
Turns out the front butterfly was stuck nearly shut and the rear was REALLY stuck shut! He gave it a good shove and it works just fine now!
Holy CRAP! It's like a whole new truck! WooooooHooooo! I wish I hadn't been such a newbie and figured it out myself, but at least it's working (heck yeah) now. Gonna actually attempt the "drive to work" tomorrow.
That kind of a find can be exhilerating. I had 49 F-6,Ton 1/2 Flatbed we called "ol' Lurch" because of it's inability to accelerate slowly.
Finally in desperation, I pulled the Carb off, and lo and behold the Bowl gasket had dried out and was sucked in, leaving a big Vacuam leak.
By the way, UGLY.... I read somewhere that most all the Ships that had been given Durogatory or Demeaning names usually went down before they were very old.
You might want to Re-think this "UGLY" name.
Or maybe carry a Broom and Shovel to clean up all broken Glass and stuff....
i have noticed that whenever I talk bad about my truck, near it or not, it proceeds to act funny. It caused the battery to explode (literally) and the radiator to dump all the water while frying the thermostat so I didn't know one day. I am very nice to her now, for fear of Effie trying to commit suicide again.
76RangerXLT - Ditto on toning down the trash talk.
I talk very highly of my truck even though she doesn't deserve it sometimes.
It'll get better UGLY!
Although every time I think that I've fixed or replaced EVERYTHING, something rears it's ugly head.

Had a somewhat uneventful drive to work. Ever since I replaced the radiator and thermostat, the engine would barely reach normal operating temperature acording to the temp. guage. Today the guage never registered anything.
I know there is a post on how to check the guage. Guess I need to find it and see what's up.
She sure runs well now, though. I wish I woulda pushed harder on the butterfly for the secondary bbls. when I checked it erlier. Live and learn, I guess...
