did the starter get burnt up?

I had someone else start my truck while I was loading stuff. When I got in I noticed something didn't sound right and nothin like the wipers would work. Well the key had stuck forward I turned it back to normal running position. Smelled smoke real bad. Next time I shut it off it won't do anything when I try to crank it. Is it the starter or could it be something smaller?

You could bypass starter solenoid to see if it wants to crank engine, also will want to inspect ring gear on flywheel or flex plate, you might want to tell more about your truck for more precise info.

It a 2003 with 7.3. It is 4 wheel drive. What other info do you need?

That should do,Im not positive that year has a starter solinoid on the passenger side inner fender, somebody might chime in & confirm or you could follow the battery cable from the starter as well.

I am pretty sure the '03 does not have the separate solenoid.

I would remove and bench test the starter. This allows you to inspect the ring gear for damage, too. Later, you can study why your ign. switch stayed stuck in the 'crank' position.
