Question 1953-56 Panel truck rear door handles

I'm restoring my 53 Panel truck and have a couple questions. On the rear doors there was one large outside handle but how many inside small handles did they come with none, one or one on each door???

Any advice or picture would be appreciated.
Thanks

My 56 has an outside door handle and once you open it then the other door that is still closed has an inside handle. There is a company that sells longer outside handle shafts so you can put an inside handle on both doors.

To answer your question, there are 2 inside handles...one on each door. Not everyone has the inside handle for the main (right side) door. Try Mid 50s; I believe they have all the handles.

My 56 Panel is a custom cab, but it only has one inside handle on the rear doors, no provision for a second one?
Kevin, do you know which company sells the shaft?

Thanks guys for info. AX I ordered the outside handle with long shaft from Mid Fifty Parts. They say you have to drill and tap shaft end to 10/32 to set up for second inside handle.

Thanks! I assume you just use a left side handle upside down?

Yep, that's what I'm planning to do. I could not believe how hard it is to find those "locking plates" for each door that assist in holding the door mechanisms. I ended up fabricating my own.

Yep. Panel parts, especially rear door parts, are very, very hard to find.

Hadn't been able to work on Gracie since this topic came up, yesterday I needed to get into the back, and for the first time I noticed SHE HAS 2 INSIDE HANDLES! They do not match each other tho, the left one is smaller and attached with a bolt thru the top and into the end of the shaft. The right one is larger, heavier, straight, and attaches to the shaft with an allen head set screw to the side of the shaft. I suspect it is a later addition as there is no cover plate over the mechanism. (She also has chromed guides to hold the doors open.)

My inside handles are similar....2 non matching handles, with the drivers door (stock) one being smaller. I welded a short extension of square shaft on the end of the right door stock shaft and mounted a matching handle with a cotter pin onto it. The handle I used was, if I recall, a junk yard passenger door handle off an F1 (not sure exactly); it had a square shaft mount. This handle was a tad longer than the regular panel left door handle, but I preferred that, to make it easier to open and close.

Take a look at the handles that Spaenaur http://www.spaenaur.com sells, or try a local big truck parts supplier. I've been told that the square shaft can be bought as key stock at industrial suppliers.
