Child Lock Problem

Ok, my problem is that we put the child locks on the back doors of my 97 Merc Mount. The outside door handle isn't working, and yes I know all about the wonderful door handles the Ford Motor Co put on it and that it'll have to be replaced I had to replace my driver door one a while back.

My problem is that I can't open the back door to take the child locks off so that I can pull the door open to do all the replacing. Is it possible to slide them off somehow and a way to pull the door panel off without breaking it?

I appreciate the help!

Man what a pain. Not sure if you could pop the door panel off and release it from the inside of the door, just a though.

Not sure if you need a exterior handle too.If you do here's a link to them on our site.Let us know how you made out.

ooh....this will be a big pain. because it will be close to impossible to getting the door panel off without breaking it. and you can't hardly remove the back seat without having the door open to have more door panel space. One thing you could try is sliding the front seat up the whole way and pop the front side of the door panel off then reach toward the back of the panel and feel the plactic snaps and feel where they are in door panel and feel where the slit is and you maybe able to slide the door panel off the plastic snaps, the problem is I can't remember which direction the slit is in the door panel. because once that is removed you will be able to reach your hand inside the door to pop it open. From the sounds of it, it isn't the lock its probably linkage in the door that has become unattached or broken.

Yeah, I was thinking that the lock wasn't the broken part, just the actual handle or the linkage. Guess I'll have to keep an eye open just in case I break the panel

I no longer have my 2000 Mountaineer to use as reference, but is it possible that if you were to roll the rear door window all the way down you might be able to get a metal clothes hanger with a hook to hook the exterior door handle linkage and pop the door open? I don't remember now if the rear windows go all the way down or just most of the way.

You may be able to get it open with a slim-jim, you will also need a parts diagram of the linkage to ascertain which link to trip

Thats the only procedure I can think of that I would try to carefully do if I were in your situation.
