Mine is a 2000 limited 4x4 with 68k miles on it. I get 12mpg around town...seriously. I get about 16 on the highway. I don't use 5w30 oil like Ford recommends anymore, i switched to 10w-30. I use 10w-30 penziol truck and suv oil- its part synthetic. I was getting about 10mpg before I went through the entire truck and changed every fluid in it. I even changed the axle fluids. I use a plain jane purolater paper air filter too. I changed the plugs to autolite platinum plugs. All this was done in one weekend. I dont know which one thing did it, but my mileage increased 2mpg....

That is a real pet peeve of mine. It is the biggest suv that they make with one of the biggest gas burners that they make!!!! Did you buy it for the mileage? Does it have Honda written on it somewhere??? I get pissed when someone comes up and say's "What kind of mileage does that big ol thing get?" Do you honestly think that anyone bought an EXCURSION with the hopes of high mileage? When the of a gun runs out, put some more in it!!! Remember people, its not how you do it...its how you look doin it!!

Someone needs to take their medication and calm down. runuover must have just filled up his X and is now feeling the pain.
As a new X owner, I'm very interested in what others are getting as far far as gas mileage. Also, comparing stats can reveal an issue with the vehicle that a new owner like me might not be aware of. Thanks for your helpful post though, it's a beaut
Without trailer I get roughly 10/14 though the X is rarely unhooked.
With trailer (8500 lbs max) 8/10 cruising @ 60 mph
Love this truck....

I basically get the same as most have already posted. Towing a 7000# boat is around 8mpg. Back roads and in town I get around 11mpg. Highway typically 13-14mpg. I did calculate 15mpg one time on a 200 mile trip, but this seems too good to be true. I'll confirm it next week driving from Maryland to Hatteras, NC. I'm expecting to get 6mpg 4 wheeling on the beach.
I have found the mileage computer in the overhead to be reasonably close to what I calculate myself. The only time this seemed to be way off was in a 1 hour traffic jam, otherwise with normal driving it has been close. Something interesting I saw the last time I pulled my boat was after about 75 miles of towing, the mileage computer showed an increase in gas mileage. I'm guessing this was from a change in the engines computer adjusting to the load? At the same time there had been some pinging which went away.

my 2000 v-10 gets about 9mpg with my wifes heavy foot around town. on one long trip we say around 17mpg at 70. i get around 12 combined to 15 hwy cuz i never go over 2000 rpm...it's like a game to me. I put a tornado device in the intake( yes i know it's fuel injection and it probably does'nt do anything) and a Kand N filter also. does it help?? dunno

2000 V10 4X4 Excursion with 103,000 miles. 305/70/16 AT tires, 4.30 gears. No lift.
Highway driving, 50/50 mix of flat land and hills, at 70-80 MPH, I get a solid 12.5 MPG.
Highway driving, flat land, 60 MPH, I can manage 16-17 MPG.
Strictly in-town driving, lots of stop and go, fairly heavy foot on the gas pedal, 75. MPG.
My big concern as of right now is how much will it change after my 6.5" lift and 37" tires are installed?? I'm hoping to not lose more than 2-3 MPG on the highway... I won't be changing gears...

My only engine mods at this time are an AEM cold air intake, and a Flowmaster 50 series muffler. They complement each other nicely!
Before putting the intake and muffler on, my 60 MPH flat land milage was 14-15 MPG.
