I have a 1983 Bronco with a 351M, variable venturee, 4 speed manual. Once in a while it simply wont start. Generally it is warm, not hot, but warm. It will start up right after I turn it off or when it is cold, but wont fire if it is between hot and cold. The engine will turn over, it cranks fine. There is spark and I have fuel clear through the jets. Ford garage will not work on this carburetor. There is one mechanic I found in the Denver metro area that will have anything to do with it, and I frankly am getting more and more scared of it! It has all new coil, cap and rotor, wires, plugs. I rebuilt the carb not too long ago. I replaced the EGR valve and now it ticks and doesnt run any better. I dont know what else to do. I have been told I cannot replace that carb with anything because it controls the timing, and everything else in that engine. If anyone has any ideas on what could make this thing run right or if there is anything I can replace it with anything, I need Help!
im not sure on replacing it, all i know is that its a crap for a carb. somone else will know if you can replace it or not, but id say somthings sticking, or the carbs shot.
I know that Holley used to offer a replacement carb that had all of the hook-ups for the TPS, etc. I installed one on a 80 Crown Vic Cop car 351W and it ran much better.
