[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Mar-02 AT 11:15 AM (EST)]Jermafenser, get a Ford factory shop manual.More info than you really need in them.Mine is an F because its reg cab.Sounds like a cool truck.Brian
There should be a vin on the left hand side on the metal part of the dash. If it is a F-350 with a 400 the vin should be F36S********. If it is a F-350 with a 351 the vin should be F36H********.
Ford didn't put the VIN plate on the dash during 73-79.
Ford put two VIN #s: The driver's door (inculdes axle, trans, wheelbase, etc info). And the frame, which only tells the VIN itself.
Sometimes, dependant upon the plant assembly, the VIN may be stamped on the body tag (looks like a credit card) usually screwed on the cowl under the hood.

The Vin tag may sometimes also be found on the underside of the bed, closest to the cab.

Sorry Bud, But you're way off.
The first letters/numbers are wrong
They Didn't put the Vin plate on the dash.
Although you got the engine part right.
Darn Specifics Eh?
An F-350 4x4 Supercab with a 400 will have the Vin #X36S
An F-350 4x4 Regular cab with a 400 will have Vin #F36S
An F-350 2x4 Regular cab 400 will have Vin #F35S
Regular cab is F
Supercab in X
2x4 is F35
4x4 is F36

so if the information on the door tag is gone, there's no where else to find it? i mean the rest like the wheelbase and tranny and stuff like that? i bought a 79 f100 and all i have is the f10gree9314. i know it's an f100 reg cab with a 302 and made in san jose but ee9314 is all the rest that i have. when they repainted it, they replaced the original door sticker with another but didn't put the information of the original on there. help!
