install lower radiator hose
Since then, I have had a constant leak from that connection. Now that it is colder, it is leaking more.
I have purchased a new hose with the special clamp on it and I can't seem to install it to the radiator. Two questions, (1) When installing, is the tab supposed to be bent away from the clamp or towards it? (2) What is the best way to get the clamp over the shoulder of the radiator connection?
Thanks for a quick reply to get this done quickly!
It is a "quick connect" fitting that is just pressed onto the lower radiator port. There is no hose clamp used at all.
The tab referred to is a little metal tab on the end of the hose. When you press the hose back on, you will see a slot in the plastic ring on the the lower rad port. This metal tab will fit into that plastic slot. It's only purpose is the stop the hose from rotating. To remove the hose, you bend that small tab up, and then twist the hose and pull.
To re-install it, you just push it back on. (This can be easy or hard). I could not get leverage to put it back on in the tight space under the truck). Since I was replacing the lower hose, I removed the entire rad, put the hose on, and then put the rad with the lower hose already attached, back on the truck. (You may get lucky and it will push back on easily).
When putting it back on, buy some new 'O' rings, (two required).
Ford part number N811343S about $4.16 ea.
My first time with this new hose and I have a stupid question. When I bought this part to replace the lowere hose I had to cut off to remove the radiator I noticed, on the hose end that attaches to the radiator, there is a message that states "to remove end bend back tab rotate hose 45 degrees and pull apart". I have a metal insert with a tab in that end of the new lower hose, the radiator end . Is it supposed to be in that end of the hose when I install it or as I was told by the person at the auto parts store do I remove that metal inset with a tabbefor hand following those directions. When I check the old radiator and the old hose I don't see the same insert.
