Hello all,
my problem is this, my brake light comes on and goes off randomly.. i notices today i missed 2nd gear *can't find it, grind it* anyway, i reaved my engine and the brake light came on, i didn't notice any change in my brake proformance. Any ideas on why its doing this? anything i should inspect/replace? thanks

I read your post again I thought you were talking about your brake lights. But after rereading I think you are talking about your brake warning light. If there is very much difference in pressure between the front and back brake systems this will cause the light to come on.This difference in pressure may be the start of a problem.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Apr-02 AT 00:00 AM (EST)]Not sure if this will help, but I had a similar problem - my brake light would come on after I held the brake for a period of time - thought at first it might be electrical as brakes seemed fine - but about six months later the master-cylinder started leaking badly - had to do a rebuilt. I'd recommend checking your fluid and monitoring it. If no change in levels, I'd have the electrical checked.
I also agree with Larry.
Cheers!
sorry, i should had made it more clear, i ment my brake warning light in the dash keeps comeing on and off. the brake resivour is full, I may just replace the master cylinder and see what happens.. thanks for your input!
Before you run out and buy a master cylinder.....the brake warning light switch is part of the porportioning valve/brake pressure differential valve.
Since the light is coming on randomly when you arent pushing the brake pedal......how about a chaffed wire from the switch. The circuit is a ground seeking one, meaning the light has power to it all the time and comes on when the warn switch makes a ground. So if the wire was chaffed and touching a ground every so often the light would come on.
However if the light comes on when you push the brake pedal then it could be a master cylinder internal leak, but you should notice a big difference in the brakes usually the pedal will feel real soft and there will be minimal braking.
