guage cluster swap
i have a question, can i switch my guage cluster (w/oil pressure and ammeter) to one with idiot lights? my guages don't work, and was planing on puttin in aftermarket guages. the reason i'm needing to switch is the plactic in the cluster is brittle and the lights won't contact to the printed circuit any more, the junkyard and plenty of ones with lights, no oil and ammeter guages. is there anything i will need to change?(wires, connections ect.) also i noticed one from a newer van looks like mine in my 78 150. will that work?

I don't know about the charging circuit wiring But,
All you have to do is replace the Oil pressure sending unit to Idiot light style instead of the gauge style that is probably on the engine now.
That's is the only difference.

I believe the wiring for the guage and the idiot light on the alternator/ammeter are way different. Sender units are different also but ask in the electrical forum.
Wouldn't it be easier just to get a guage cluster or some new sender units from another junkyard? The idiot light units are a dime a dozen because no one wants them, unless of course you come in looking for one then they become very valuable. Everybody wants to convert the other way. You may be opening a can of worms unless you are real good with electricals and wire harness swaps.
Good Luck!
