I was in the hardware store today and as I walked by the tool department I thought "I need to pick up a utility knife."
So my question is what tool do you loose the most?
For me it's a utility knife and a phillips screwdriver. Dont knoww why it's always the phillips screwdrivers but I could have four of them and in a few weeks not be able to find a single one. Utility knives, I've prolly bought 4 or 5 of them this year alone!
My box at home is pretty full. But I have my portable boxes for work. I have to watch them being open, as people who lose their tools, always want to borrow.
Now, down to your question, I am nearsighted, so when ever I have to work on something close or small, I take off my glasses, then I lose them, because I can't see them! (not technically lost, cause I can feel around for them, but thought you might like a laugh).
I used to be a lot worse about losing tools, then I got my box, and started organizing things, it was amazing how many "lost" things reappeared.
the 1/2" wrenches fit the bolts to 5/16" shear pins, so we have 2 on each tractor, often they get lost. grab one out of the shop and go to wherever the tractor is and it ends up on the tractor or in the truck.
Utility knives for me usually get left under a house, in an attic, in my house, in my truck,in my shop. Usually more displaced than lost.
When I was a kid my dad was always "losing" 9/16 wrenches. Why did he "lose" them? Because they fit the axle nuts on my bicycle!
I think he finally ended up buying about a half dozen of them.
Once I grew up I found out that tools are a lot more difficult to "lose" if you arrange your toolbox to where everything has its particular place. Then, a quick scan at the end of the job will tell you if something is missing.
When working around the house I like to put the tools I'm using in a 5 gallon bucket. Whenever I put a tool down it goes in the bucket. The bucket is also handy for holding bits of trash, beer cans, and whatever else you generate while on the job.
I really don't seem to have a favorite tool to loose. Basically it's just whatever tool I'm working with at the time, it gets kicked or dropped or (more often than not) I'll set it in that slick place that will hold it well. Then once I've moved 3 ft to the left I can't see it anymore. But lately it seems to be my air rachet....not so easy to find when the air hose ain't connected cause it's on the impact.
