I just installed a set of dynomax standard series headers on my 73 F100. since i have done this the passanger side header is leaking at the rear of the flange by the firewall. A friend of mine told me to just go get header studs and add two gaskets and that would solve the problem. I called tech support and they said use pyrmatex, while on phone told them of what my friend said. They said that it would work. I'm just looking for some help from some real ford owners.
I had a similar problem with a chchchchevy (I know...don't swear online). I asked a local engine builder about double gaskets and he said it only doubles the chance of leaks. Just FYI.
hmmmm....I had the same problem with dynomax on my 73 too! I tried double gaskets for awhile and they too eventually blew out. The problem I had was the bolts backed out just a little, and that was enough to blow the gasket apart. You might try copper gaskets. Racers use them and believe in them. I myself got tired of the header issues so I converted back to the stock logs! and guess what? I don't use gaskets. Yup that's right! I talked to a buddy of mine at ford and he informed me that they don't use gaskets on most of their exhaust manifolds unless their warped. As long as they are flat, little holes will seal up with carbon after a few miles. I tried this and was shocked on how good it works. My dynomaxes were slightly warped when I laid a straight edge across them. There is not much meat to the flange. I definately wouldn't put permatex copper or anything on them, because it makes it really hard to scrape off after your gaskets blow for the 50th time. Hope this helps. I am still searching for the perfect header. I know it's out there somewhere.
