Dynomax Header Install - 78' 4wd

Well, basically I was going to either go with Hedman's or Dynomax Headers for my 78' F150 Supercab 4x4. I have a 400 w/ C6 trans, A/C and P/S. I ended up getting the Dynomax ($109) version from Jeg's - just arrived 2 days ago. Just looking for insight from others with this similiar engine/trans combo, and how the install went. Just looking for Dynomax install tips........and problems..............

Yes, looking for information such as that (and hopefully some good experiences, along with the bad ones). I don't think I have ever hung a set of headers that did not require a little "massaging" to make fit/clear/not rattle, etc. But after searching some "Headers" posts (after I ordered these), was concerned with fit issues with all of the low end brands. So, I am gathering that you did not try to make the Dynomax's fit, and went right to the Hedman's? I am definately not notching my frame for these to fit, but the driveshaft being so close would certainly be a concern. Was wondering if the pipes couldn't be heated by the collector and bent a little more out of the way on that side? I had to do something similiar on a Mustang once. Anyways, I do appreciate the reply and I'll go back and study your photos some more.

Thanks

Beeboy - Did the Dynomax headers fit on the outside of the driveshaft on the driver's side, and the Hedmans fit inside of the driveshaft? Wow, what a difference for the same vehicle application. That's odd that 2 manufactures would be so far off from each other. Good pics BTW, I appreciate it.

I sent the Dyno's back. I didnt feel comfortable trying to bend and dimple ceramic coated headers.
You are correct on the axle alignment. weird huh? One disadvantage to the Hedmans is that it makes it a bugger to get to the dipstick port on the oilpan.
The hedmans do have thicker flanges too. The Dyno's flanges bent when tightening them down, even with a small wrench. Plan on buying a real set of gaskets, they come with junk. Also, the Hedmens come with a gizmo that allows you to hook the air cleaner stove pipe to your header. The headers do come with reducers, hedmen includes 2 1/2 and 2 1/4 reducers. The hedmens have the nifty ball collector, so you dont have a gasket down there.

I'm not sure if the transfer case would make a difference on how close the header was to the driveshaft, my truck has an NP203.

I agree totally about not wanting to "tweak" ceramic coated headers. Was just curious if that would have been option at all (or in my case - will be if necessary). Mine are the painted version, so scratching paint is not a problem. It's all going to burn off pretty quick anyway. Doubt there'd be much difference between the 203 and 205's driveshaft, but maybe.........Anyway, I appreciate it. I'm definately going with different gaskets - they do look like crap. You get what you pay for, I guess.........

Well, I called Dynomax at the time, and they said to try denting them to get clearance on the frame. They were going to send me a replacement for the drivers side, they reviewed the videotape of when they fitted these to a truck and didnt know why I would be having the problems I did.
I figured if I dent them all up, there was no way Summit would then take them back.
