I am going to get some headers for my truck, and from what I have read the dynomaxs have a slip joint on one side. I dont like that idea a lot, but they are in my price range. They also have a Jet-Hot coated version, do these have this slip joint? Right now I am thinking I should save up a bit more and get some Hookers. What other brands have you guys had experience with. Im not trying to debate if manifolds or headers are better here, they both have there advantages.
I run the Hooker super comps because that's what came with the truck. The fit well and look to be a great design. I had to oblong the bolt holes to get them to match perfectly to the exhaust on my 428, but that might be because I ported the heads. On a side note, I have been able to remove and install the stock starter without dismounting the engine and only had to dismount the header. I'd find out just how thick the flang is and look at the tube design.
When I looked close at the Hookers, you could tell that they spent some time looking at the FE port design, the bends are good and I'm guessing they would be one of the better ones for performance. If you can get a picture of the Dynomax, compare the tube layout, they may have copied Hooker and that would save you some money. Let us know what you do, it's nice to have the scoop on what works best.
I am using the Dynomax Ceramic Coated Headers on the 460.
They do have the slip joints, exhaust pipes fit over the joint
tight before clamping. Does not show to be leak at the joint.
Ceramic coat is holding up rather well.
Had them on the truck for about 1 year now.
I was reading in some posts i found searching, and the guy said there was a slip joint on one of the pipes and it goes around a crosmember or something, Im not sure, thats why Im asking. If anybody has a picture of the Dynomax headers, I would like to see them. If they dont have that slip joint, im definetly going to get them because they are only 103.99 and have a $25 rebate right now.
I've got the Dynomax headers for my 71 2wd, with a 302. They have a flange connector. I don't know how long they last, I haven't fired up the engine yet.

In the land of the blind, the man with one eye is king.
I called dyno max Today. And here is what they said. The header for the 390 2-wheel drive f-100 has 3 bolt flanges. I don't know about the bronco or the 4 wheel drive versions.
hey i have a 73 f-100 460 -c6 i run doug thorley headers they have 3/8 flanges look great and perform very well and fit nice little pricey but well worth the money
I know headers can be a pain, but any header has got to be better than my cracked leaky manifolds. I want to order these dynomaxes from Jegs, but Im thinking I will try to have a dealer get a pair in so I can look at them first. I called one shop and they want me to pay for them before they order them. I think some of you are confused, Im not talking about the flange, Im talking about an individual tube in the header, that has to come apart and go around a crossmember in the frame. This doesnt sound right to me, but i read it on another post and just want to make sure.
Dave I seem to have the same truck as you 75 4x4 390 4 speed, my truck currently has some rotted out header with no collectors or anything its terrible, i would also love to order the 103 dollar dynomaxs from jegs as they are cheap and my trucks isnt a driver but a farm truck, My current headers are designed so the 2 primary tubes are in front of the motor mount and 2 are behind the motor mount all meeting up at the collector which looks to me as if the motor actually has to be lifted out for the headers to be installed, I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS, I would also like to see the header I am going to purchase before I purchase it because my purchase depends on what is entail on installing it , Someone one here said the dynomax came in like 2 pieces so you could install it without lifting the motor Im not sure how this would work or leak but any info is appreciated
