Tailgate Hinge/Pivot Question

I recently aquired an '83 F-150 with 116,000 miles and only slight rusting. The tailgate does not want to operate smoothly and it appears that the hinges or pivots or whatever is down on each side is either missing or worn out.
What is it that is missing or worn out? Are they replaceable? Where can I obtain them?
Thanks

Yes these are replaceable. You can get them here: http://blueovaltruckparts.com/catalo...sort=2a&page=2

And here is a breakdown if you need it. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...oid=93261&.jpg

The tailgate mechanism on most of these older fords tends to get hard to operate after years of use.

Okay, so I went to Blue Oval Truck Parts as suggested and ordered insert #BB-0190. Well when it arrived, I noticed it said RH on the label. Sure enough, it only works on the right side. This is not suggested on the webpage and there is no listing for the left side. I cannot find a listing anywhere for a left side insert bushing.
Suggestions?

I don't believe the left side uses an insert bushing. The left side should be round on the tailgate and on the truck. The right side is round on the tailgate, and a slanted flat piece on the truck. The purpose is to make the tailgate easy to remove/install. The tailgate slides on the left side first, then the bushing on the right, inserted in the tailgate side of the hinge, slides down over the slanted truck side of the hinge. If the tailgate is in good condition, then you'll need a left hinge (BB-0188), a right hinge (BB-0189), and a right hand hinge insert (BB-0190).... This stuff won't do much good, though, if the tailgate pieces that ride on these hinges are shot.....

Well that all makes sense. I just can't believe the left is just metal on metal. The right side on my truck is definitely wearing out. Give it a few years and I will look at getting a new or better tailgate.

Metal on metal with a spot of grease, for the movement that a tailgate was designed to go through, will last for years.....

You can replace the hinges, and buy a new tailgate shell. Re-use your handle, screws, linkage, and latches if they are in good shape, and you should be set for another 20 years or so....
