have a worn pivot in one of my hood hinges which makes the hood raise up on the RH side when closed... has anyone ever performed a repair of a hinge? I assume it involves grinding the old pivot off and installing a bolt or rivet in its place? ideas? Should I just shim it?
Topic has come up on number of occasions, seem to recall member mentioning he/she worked in machine shop that occasionally got hood hinge in for repair and they would use a shop press to tighten the pivot pin, at $100 ea. new IMO it would be worth a try and would start in small increments and testing after ea. applicationg, not sure if it can be done w/out removing the hinge. Anyhow, food for thought.
Pretty easy fix if you have access to a welder. Cut off the old pivot, get bolt same diameter. Weld from backside. Cut bolt to length. Double nut it so it cant vibrate loose. Shoot it with some black paint. Will look factory unless someone looks really close.
