What does it have? Power windows? locks? carpet? cruise? tilt wheel? Cloth seat?
If so, I'd say it's a XLT
My 1984 F-250 is a XL and it has manual locks and windows, rubber floor, cloth seat, cruise and tilt. If that helps...

I have the 86 XLT Lariet. Mine has clock, tilt, cruise, delay wipers, power locks, power windows, gauges and no idiot lights, wood grain dash and cloth inserts on the door panels. My truck does not have power seats or auto headlights which my other Ford/Mercury cars have.
I do have captains chairs and the driver's side reclines.
Not sure what the differences exactly are between XLT, XL, Custom etc.
I did not have a tach/tripmeter until I swapped gauge clusters.
Give us some info on if you have vinyl seats, all plastic door panels, one color dash or wood grain sections, clock, bench seat or captains chairs etc.
