adding chrome trim to 79 f100

I just picked up the chrome trim for both sides pf my f100. My truck has never had this trim package. I checked the wrecker and the plastic holders for the trim are attached by metal pins inserted from inside.

My intention is to remove the rubber, screw the trim in place with stainless steel screws and then replace the rubber.

Has anyone tried this ? is there a better way?

Go to your local pinstriping shop, and ask for the commercial grade double sided tape. It is foamy in the middle, and VERY sticky. New trucks use this to hold their decals and badging on. Cut the tabs off your molding, and just use the tape. I'm sure it will hold. I plan on doing this to my 79 crew cab, as it is a custom, and has no holes at all for the body trim that runs in the groove.
Good luck!
