My 77 highboy has intermittant wipers. You know the type. Turn the **** left for intermittant.. Right one click from center is low...another click fast. Push the **** in and it washes. What has happened is that the low setting doesn't work. The high setting will work for a while then occasionally the wipers will stop mid windshield. Then they will start again.
My question. Does this sound like a dead wiper control switch....or ??????
I'd pull the switch and make sure the switch contact points are clean. Oxidation and corrosion can keep you from making good contact. I'd also check for good ground.
Yes, the switch is easily available as a replacement part. Check out our sponsors, most of them sell the switch. I have found this switch in the National Parts Depot catalog on page 199 (part # F-17A553-7) at a cost of $54.95 each. I have seen these on ebay (used) once in a while too.
The two switches (standard and intermittent) are totally different and will not interchange. The standard switch does not physically have the intermittent selection available. It only has off,low and high. -Ed

What I meant by interchanging, was could an intermittent dwitch be replaced by a regular switch without modifying the truck? I realize I would lose the intermittent function.

Yes it should plug right in, I did it on my 70 stang which uses the same switch as the truck.
