need a little more info....Welcome to the V10 forum of FTE
Set up a signature with info about your truck and then we can hover over the word signature and a drop down will show us the info. It makes a lot of difference if you have a 97 V10 or a 2006 V10 SuperDuty and all variations in between.
Most of Fords SuperDuty trucks are prewired for trailer brakes. New trucks from 99-04 came with a adapter for a trailer brake controller and a few relays in the glove box so the owner could buy an aftermarket controller and jack it in with OUT hacking the wiring and cause brake or lighting problems (safety issue and product liability lawsuit prevention)
The instructions for the adapter usually described where under the dash the plug in connector could be found and what color it is. Life is real easy if you can get that plug in pig tail.
The connector is usually to the right of the steering wheel and throttle pedal up under the lower dash. Some times it is very hard to find and a PITA to get both hands in to connect up to it and make sure the connectors are clicked locked.
If your truck has the trailer plug in receptacle s back at the rear bumper, or the termination connectors back there tucked up behind the rear bumper you are in luck. If no trailer plugs AND no pre wired connectors then you probably do not have the in cab wiring and your in for a pain to get all the wiring set up properly. Especially if you need a 5 or 7 pin set up for trailer brakes, lights, and battery charge. Simple 4 pin set up for the lights on a trailer can be hacked in from the rear of the truck fairly easy.
I believe every Ford I've bought since 89 or maybe 91 had a 4-wire pigtail in the glove box to wire in a brake controller. Sometimes the female end is up under the right side of the dash, and sometimes it's on the left, one time it was under the carpet behind the E-brake pedal. It makes for a very simple hook-up of the braking system. I also remember having every truck come with a flat four plug tucked up somewhere under the bumper.
If you don't have the factory 4 wire pigtale you can buy it at a ford dealer or most rv supplies . The 4 wires hookup to the brake controller and the other end plugs in to the right of your foot brake and look for the plug that matches up to the pigtale .
