i had a 99 sd with a v10. not any more!! i got a 99 sd POWERSTROKE. just put on ss 4" exahust what a difference there. first question is the down tube off the turbo is 3.5" then to 4" through a 4" muffler and 4" out the back. is the 3.5" for back pressure or what. next question is a chip or programer. if jody is out there talk to me. i tow 6800 toy trailer want to add some performance, and more performance when the trailer is not on. i want to be able to adjust on the fly. i have no gages, so i was thinkin of pillar mount or display on programer. what do you guys think!!! i know its alot of things but i need some direction. should i change my name? thanks for your time. 10 pipes
Get your guages first, then add the power.
I was shocked at how much potential is hidden inside the engine. Like putting a second engine under the hood!
yep i second kwiks suggestion of gauges first. Then add chip your engine will last a lot longer that way. Check out dp-tuner.com for Jody tipton programming.
Yep ditto to the gauges first - it's just the safe way to start your mods. As far as the 3.5" downpipe... the turbo gives the motor all the back pressure you need - but that downpipe will keep your power down lower in the rpm than if you went to a bigger one, but at the cost of a few egt degrees if you are gonna be making some serious HP. For what you will be doing - I'm sure you will be fine with it.
I'd go with a 4 or 6 position flip chip - you'll be able to change your setting any time you like - and you can get a hotter setting than you could with a tuner, for when you unhook your trailer!!
hey guys thanks alot, i have to pic out some guages soon. thats what i was thinking as welll. there is some pics of gauge pillar pods, even in grey to match i'll check that route. again thanks for your replies!! primo site

Ditto on the gauges. Pillar pods can be ordered in matching colors to your truck. You can also buy matching interior paint if your pillar pod is black. I have 4 pos. Tipton chip and tow a 8000 lb. travel trailer. Without the trailer and flipped to a higher setting, the truck will rock. No problems with the chip and EGTs stay cool on Econo or tow setting.
thanks for the tips guys, got the gauges on order should be here next week. so i got the k&N/ 4in exhaust/ the waste gate plugged. anything else you can think of? waiting on gauges to get chip. ts is where i'm leaning to. thanks again.
TS Performance is good, I bought one through Diesel Innovations and it was a TS chip. 4 pos makes for a lot of fun!! At 110hp I just tap the pedal and the smoke will roll out.
Other thing, what do you have for a tranny?? If it's the auto, look at a shift kit, real common and cheap is the Sonnax valve and Tri-cummulator springs. Will quicken and firm up your shifts.
All that will make you think you have a new truck!
Kwik, thank you for posting the link for 5" system sounds. Flipping Awesome!!!!!
I've put it on my Christmas list, lemme' see if Momma buys it for me......
Hmmm, maybe I'll run 8" steel water line all the way out the back. Wonder how that would sound...
Hahahaha!

I added a couple new sounds. The best one is at the bottom of the list. Very throaty sound coming at you.
