I posted this in the Super Duty forum with no response, I will try here as it involves a V-10.
HI Guy’s,
I have a ’97 F-150 SC 4X4 short bed with the 4.6 liter and 4.11 gears. I am going to be upgrading to a 2 or 3 year old Super Duty F-250 super cab long bed or crew short bed with the V-10 and 4X4.
My question is this, what can I expect for different turning radiuses between what I have now and the SD? I am pulling a trailer and would like to find out what to expect for backing it up into my driveway, etc.
If the turning radius is important and you haven't yet obtained the F250, you should be aware that starting in '05 the turn radius improved a lot. Can't give specifics but I'm sure they'll be coming...
Actually: "The Super Duty 4x4's turning diameter is up to 5.1' tighter than before; loaded and unloaded cornering and manoeuverability are more precise; and it's easier to park, too."
After all the marketing BS, they changed suspensions from leaf to coil in '05 and the turn radius is better.
Scott you know that the overall wheel base has an impact...so your 97 4x4 F150 is a LOT shorter then a 01 and up SuperDuty 4 door long bed... The F205/350 a couple of years old have the solid axle and leafs in front so you can be sure the longer truck will not trun as tight a circle as your F150... if you find a 05 / 06 in your price range the new coil front 4x4 turns significantly tighter.

I decrease my turning ratio to almost nothing, the benefit of V10 Ford power. Crank the front wheels left or right, apply the brakes slightly and NAIL IT. I can spin 19 feet of van around in it's own wheelbase.

"honey, will you come here for a sec? I need you to take a picture of me in my van".
"What?, why?"
"I want to post a picture of me turning around in the cul de sac with my van" (by the way dear, where the heck is our USB/camera cord? I haven't seen it since our youngest used it as a dog leash).
"Wait a minute husband, let me get this straight. You are going to go out in the street, in OUR cul de sac, in OUR nice, quiet neighborhood and do a donut, and you want ME to take a picture of it so you can show all your cronies? Are you NUTS?"
"Well, yea, I guess I am, so will ya do it? Honey? dear? punkin? where are you? why are you laughing hysterically like that?"

Ken, setup a video camera on the ground or tripod, you don't need the wife
I was thinking of doing this just to have a smokey burnout video... I think I might ... hope I don't break an axle ...
I've never heard my V10 at full throttle from outside the truck - the video cam should pick that up quite nice... hmm... another project for this weekend ... hee hee...

hey, great idea, in fact our new digital camera has video, and my 14 yr old son LOVES burn-outs. Everytime he jumps in he looks at me and says "are we gonna do any smoky burnouts on this trip dad" ? I'm afraid he'd get so involved in watching the burnout that he'd not concentrate on video taping (is it taping when it goes on a flash card?).
Now, where's that bottle of bleach,,,, heh heh heh,,,,,,,
