Gidday,
Is anybody able to give me instructions on how to adjust 1st gear bands to (hopefully) stop slipping in 1st? Its a C4 in a 71 F100 Ambo.
Thanks
Kel
I would check with the gang in the Trans forum, but I did the adjust on my C6 and it's quite simple. There is(should be) a threaded rod with a screw driver slot on the side of the trans. Lossen the hold-down bolt and twist in the rod. I would go 1/2 turn at a time and see what you get.
A C6 has only one band, for 2nd gear. To adjust it, loosen and back off the lockdown nut on the square-headed bolt on the left side of the trans, tighten the square-headed bolt to 10 ft. lbs, back out 1 1/2 turns and lock the nut back down.
Follow the same procedure to adjust the front band on a C4.
For the rear band on the C4 (low/reverse), follow the same procedure as the front band, except back out the square-headed bolt 3 turns.
Gidday instig8r63,
Thanks for your response.
There are 2 adjusting bolts, one on each side of the tranny. Do you know which one is the first gear adjuster?
Thanks
Kel

Gidday instig8r,
As I havent done this befofe I just want to confirm your instructions. I wind the adjuster all the way in and torque it to 10 ft, then wind back out 3 complete turns? Is that correct?
Thanks Mate

Would 120 inch pounds be the same as 10 foot pounds? I've got a torque wrench that doesn't go any lower than 30. However the inch pound wrench might can do it if I have my numbers right? Anyone know?
