so i just got done installing my 460 with a c6 in my 69 ford, drove it around and it was slipping so i replaced the filter and vacum modulater on the trans and it was still slipping a little so i looked in my book and read about how to adjust the intermittent band, so long story short instead of torquing it 120in/lbsi tried to do it to 120 ft/lbs and it made a loud snap!!!, so i take it i broke the band, right??
so how hard is it to replace this band and should i do anything else to the trans while i have it apart to make my c6 better???
It's the intermediate band, basically only applied in second gear. If your transmission slipped in any gear other than 2nd, it should come out and be rebuilt. Rebuilding is not hard, there is probably someone close who will do it for you for not too much as long as you pull it.
In the times I have had c6s apart, you do have to disassemble the transmission to remove the band. The mount on the end is too large to fit around the drum.
You can pull the pan and valve body to see what specifically is damaged, but there are a few springs and check valves that need to go in exactly the right spot, that also like to fall out and roll to hidden spots.
k so i was looking at a c6 trans on craigslist for a $100 and he said it has overdrive is that a good deal i havent got any more information like millage and stuff but does that sound like a good deal??
No C6 has OD, unless it is a bolt on aftermarket unit like a gear vendor or something. I kind of doubt they are selling a C6 with a $2100 dollar OD for $100. That isn't a bad deal for a working C6 but make sure it is right for you engine, no swapping bells on these guys it is part of the case.

It sounds like someone trying to unload a non-functioning transmission. I never advertised one for less than $150, and that was needing a new pump.
You know the problems with yours, and as long as you didn't damage the case it's easily fixed. It's maybe two-three hours max to rebuild a c6, and the kit is $75 if you choose to do it yourself, if you find someone to do it it's more in the range of $200-$300, a shop will charge $600-$800 with a warranty, and a rebuilt unit with 3-5year warranty is in the $700-$1200 range.
Here's a pic of a C6 band
What most likely happened is you broke those spot welds that hold that tab to the band backing.
You need to rebuild the transmission if it was slipping in any other gear, though.
well i was planning on pulling the trans anyways cause i have a leaky rear main seal, so what do u think my problem is with the slipping??, something in the valve body????
if it does it in all gears your forward clutch is toast more then likely. Now it could be a clogged filter starving it and reducing line pressure but that will also take out your clutches (less pressure, more slippage, enough slippage equals burned clutches)
