Hey Gang.....
Could anyone help me out with the list of parts required to change my Highboy from the leak prone, multi-power steering hose mess I have now to the power steering incorporated into the steering box; like on the newer trucks? Can I still keep the large external hubs? Any help or advise would be appreciated. Thanx BTV
Well BTV, your going to need
-a 6" pitman arm
- new drag link
- integral power steering box 3 hole or 4 hole
- the hoses that came off the box
- and some 1/4" or 5/16" plate to box in the frame for the box
Everything listed can be found on 73-79 Ford trucks, and yes you can still keep you hubs.
bob , call LMC in kansas(800-222-5664)and order their catalogue---it has very good pic's of the ps systems for the 73-79 and later trucks---you can visually see the difference(s)----You should see the pic's Mr. jc workman took of his conversion--they are very good and helpful---he posted them in his gallery---When you buy a steering box---get the one with (4) mounting holes----for the f250\350 4x4 work load---not the 3 holer----the steering arm on the left front wheel will work just fine-----the draglink that connects both front wheels will work as well----you will have to procure the short connecting arm\link that connects the pitman arm on the ps box to the steering arm on the left front wheel , good luck , fd :-X11
---When you buy a steering

>f250\350 4x4 work load---not the 3 holer----
I was just wondering why you say to get the box with the 4 hole and not the one with the 3 hole? Is there an advantage with the 4 hole? I have the one with the 3 hole right now and all the parts to do the swap. I also have the steering shaft an u-joint from a 4 hole box and it seems to be a different length then the one on a 3 hole box. I do have access to the 4 hole box for free from a friend if that will be better i will use it. The 4 hole box is out of a 79 F250 4x4 supercab.
Thanx for the replies. I really appreciate the assistance. Could anyone tell me how to access JC Workman's site so I could see what I'm getting into here? Later BTV
Well , Ford is the one who decided that a f250\350 4x4 would probably need a ps box with alittle more MOXY , given the fact that the rated workload for the front axle of an f350 4x4 is probably about 2,000 pounds greater than for a f150 4x4--vs--an f350------ON THE OTHER HAND-----I could be wrong!!!But , I believe that the 4 holer is the ps box that was origional equipment----I , personally , wouldn't accept anything less---also , if you know of a 4 holer from a 78-79 for f250 4x4 that is for sale i need to do the conversion myself----fd :-X11
BTV-----I would like too know what Brand of Grog do you imbibe , before plundering and pillaging with reckless abandon , while you work on your 77 Viking Hauler---Also , what kind of hay do you prefer when having your way in the bed of your 77 with all the servent women that you capture on the way too the Junk yard????in texas , we prefer Coastal , it has such a "down home feel too it" , fd :-X11
