UVC = under valve cover. The external injector harness plugs in to the valvecovers, which have a connector built in, then other side of those connectors plug into the UVC harness which run to the injectors.

Sure glad you have the camper....and a laptop with an internet connection. You'd be bored silly if you were trying to fix this thing without all of us harassing you.

its hard to get ones point across typing. but here goes.
basically you could have any of the following problems:

1.external plug is burnt on a pin or 2 most likely injector pin in your case.
2.or uvc harness is burnt and will be pretty evident once you got vc's off.
3.or you could have a burnt external plug that also cuased you too get a burnt uvc.

regardless of what your scenario its safe too say you will need 1 vc gasket.
and either uvc harness or repair parts for external plug.

the idm is shutting down 1 bank to avoid engine damage. this is a very common thing that happens when you got burnt wiring.
and in reference to your last post. no you dont need a new complete external harness. i was just trying to let you know ford doesnt sell the repair kit for external plugs.

please see my random pics album link in sig to see what mean.

save yourself some time and do the spit test!!!!
get truck running and see what side is firing and which is not. by spitting on finger and touching exhaust manifold. it will be clearly evident. and then i would only pull that side off. also look at your external plugs that plug into vc gaskets first. you may be able to determine what you got right from that.

please call if you got ?????'s or need some parts.

a pic of a uvc harness. black plug goes to glow plug white plug goes to injector. they usually melt in the center where it plugs in vc gasket.

Sorry for disappearing but I've used so many minutes of primetime on the cell with the laptop I thought I would wait until after nine. This cell connection is as slow a molassas
on a cold winter night. Your so right 1997F-350, I have a heck of a time trying to explain my self tpying but here go's:
Summary of all the mess... 1st mistake, never assume anything until proven. I assumed that
I had a fuel problem because I had a new aux fuel tank. I did have, what I thought, a lot
of crap in the filter housing. 2nd mistake, I assumed the fuel pump was clogged up and I
needed to clean it or get a new one. 3rd mistake, the diagram of the FPR that Ford's
parts department printed off for me was correct. Wrong, this morning another Ford dealer
parts department printed off another diagram of the FPR. The first showed the FPR screen,
then the little plastic ball then the plastic insert into the FPR housing. Wrong, the
little ball is behind the plastic insert inside the FPR, which I was not missing. The
parts man said that Ford has three different systems that the parts people use, beware. 3rd
mistake, I assumed, that as the conversation went, (I realize very helpful trouble shooting
by very helpful people here) that it must be burned vc wiring and it turned out that it
wasn't. Its a process of elimination but a diesel tech at Ford's this morning listened to
very patiencely, then asked me if I had checked a bolt on the bottom inside of the HPOP
to see if it was loose? I forgot what he called it but my God, he was right. I tighten
it and drove 330 miles nonstop. This bolt sticks out from the bottom of the HPOP on the
drivers side and he said if it was loose the sensor or whatever it is won't work right
making it miss and act up. Again, thanks to you all! You are all very generous and helpful!

Sometimes you just have to laugh at the simplicity of some repairs. ONE LOOSE BOLT!!! LOL. Great news to hear that you are on your way again.

Hot dog...it's fixed.

I'm embarrassed that we (I) missed so badly with the diagnosis.

Glad you got her up and running.

1997F-350, so its called IPR, must mean it regulates the oil pressure to the injectors. There were no leaks with it being loose?? Oh well, felt so good that I cranked her up to 75 on some back roads of N.D. That's about as fast as I care to go with the 5er behind us. My wife didn't even notice, I'm glad she likes to read!! I'm still in awe as to what the powerstroke will do and can do. Cookie88, if mechanics were easy everybody would be good. Also, what bothers me is that there were no codes when scanned. I'm just starting to, I can't believe I'm going to say this, like computers on vehicles but if they are not going to give me a code to go after?????
