Well went and did alittle work tonight on JR. Pulled the 1354 and put the doubler in and tried to put the 1354 back in but need to modify the floor alittle. If I only had one of those fabricaters.
Clint thinks we can flatten the front edge of stiffening channel the runs the width of the body and get the 1354 on the back of the doubler. I have my doubts. The plan is I guess to make some cuts with the cut off disk on the grinder and use a hammer to flatten this. Then if it does not work weld peices back in. If it works this would be a quick and easy and no cost fix. Another solution would be to install a 2" body lift. That would cast about $100 for the lift and up to another almost $300 for body mount peices. And would be a whole lot more work.
Pic's are up at the bottom of the page at this link: http://www.mappyjack.com/Jrpic.htmI think we'll try to drop the tranny cross member a bit and see if we can get the t-case on the back of the dobler box. Then cross our fingers that it will go high enough to hook the crossmember back up. If not I think I'll have to look real hard at a 2" body lift. Clint says that will be a total of 8" of lift. Guess he's worried it will tip over.
Went over tonight and Clint was under "Jr.". Clint: Hand me my dead blow hammer. Me: Thats not for something I'm going to need latter is it. Clint: Just a little gentle.........
Seems Clint lowered the tranny mount and was able to get the 1354 t-case on the doublers shaft but the fuel filter and cover plate on the drivers side frame rail was in the way. He could not get the t-case to rotate up where it needed to be to bolt up. So he tried to remove the filter and cover and found that it had studs and wraped around the frame in a way that it could not be removed. Must have been installed before the body was put on. He tapped on the cover plate and few times then pulled on it so that he was able to get the t-case bolts started.
But the t-case hits on the floor before we can get the tranny mount bolt to line up. So we need a body lift. Clint is trying to find some one inch spacers. I noticed that the center yoke on the rear of the t-case was closer to the drivers side frame rail than the passangers side. This was just a test fit so we have several more things to try.
Well went over and work on Jr. changed the crossmember around and got everything in place with out hitting the floor or anything. Had to bend a heat sheild a little and it only clears by 1/8 to 1/4 inch with out the body lift. Only got a few thing left to do tranny lines, linkage, transfercase shifter, lower radator hose, rear end modify the crossmembers, driveshafts, brakes, shocks to name a few.
This was just another test fit. It has to come back apart and get gaskets installed. Vent tubes ran. Filled with fluid. Wiring finished. Then I hope tomorrow to have the tranny shifter ready to install. Have to do some mod work on it but just minor stuff to clear the bolts I am using instead of the rivets that were drilled out. Most of the bolts on the extended radius arm need lock tight and torqued again.
