Thumbs up

hehe, I still love black smoke on a PSD. I only wish I had a PSD to make black smoke with.

But I still have a Ford.

Daryl, SgtHawkusmc, and others whom I may have offended:

I find many of the responses interesting. The intent of the post was to increase awareness that some of the mods we do may not be the best thing for our environment, neighbors, or even the truck. I do question the logic of modifying trucks for normal street use to the extent of illegal and/or unsafe use. Agree?

To state data is not an insult to anyone. To state poorly written data, is an insult to myself. lol. If any of members on this forum took my posting as an insult, I offer you an apology. An insult is when a person causes undo hardship to others. An example of this is, “blowing smoke” in the direction of someone. Agree?

Proofing my writing before I post it is advisable. Thanks Laredo7mma for pointing out my errors. lol

I intend to replace my muffler with a Aero-Turbin muffler. My maturity level still allows me to have fun. I hope the neighbors agree.

An insult is merely a negative word or words slung at someone with the INTENT of causing harm.

Words are merely words, however. Sticks and stones....

I think truck owners can modify and still keep an awareness of the environment; much in the same way good hunters do.

The meaning of insult: "a deliberately offensive act or something producing the effect of deliberate disrespect". An insult is not limited to only words NJFordFan.

A good hunter does the same thing a bad hunter does. They are just more selective and congenial about it.

I totally agree that mods are acceptable. I do a few myself.. But there is a time and place for everything.
If any mods are in conflict with laws (safety, eco, local, …) for a truck that is used on our public roads, do you believe that we should support and condone such behavior?

RGONOT: I’m sorry that your thread turned out this way. You had a question about your truck, and I replied with a poorly written answer that I had hoped would inject some humor into it. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Until I see a majority of law enforcement officials obeying all traffic laws, I will believe that even they know how unreasonable some laws are. Notice I said a majority. I know there are always bad apples. I have yet to see a law enforcement officer drive the speed limit or use their signals all the time and obey all traffic laws. So, to answer your question, yes. I do support and condone some of the "behavior."
I think you are being extremely hypocritical and ignorant by posing these questions while admitting you do exactly what you are attempting to create arguments against.

mettech.......quick point of advice, quit while your ahead, because from what i just read it seems you believe all hunters just want to kill (or something along those lines), the "good ones" only do a better cover up job....

First it was the trucks, now its hunting.........just drop the politically correct BS and lets go on talking about our trucks.

I remember the good old days...with my VW Rabbit diesel pickup... or my Olds 350 Cutlass Diesel (the last block was the best ever), or my Chevy Impala Diesel. No EGR valves, no computers...just a motor that used the fuel. That Olds was the best ever. It would pass them all. I had to give it away to get rid of it...it would not die!
Smoke at takeoff does not mean you will get worse fuel mileage, unless you stab the throttle at EVERY takeoff.

Take the Superchips 1704 as an example. In performance mode, it smokes at heavy takeoff but generally gets 1-3 MPG better than stock. In normal driving conditions, it makes more power under less load, and less load = less fuel consumed at a given RPM.

With the way diesels are fueled through the stock computer, it is NECESSARY to have some tip in smoke to make maximum power.
I could go into a deep explanation, but not today =o)

That olds 350 diesel was a horriffic engine....designed as a gas, converted to a diesel. It was rated one of the top 10 worst V8's of all time.

Hey mettech, I never meant to imply that you didnt like your truck. But the fact of the matter is this is a forum for Ford trucks, engines, electronics, hop-ups, etc etc etc...... I may think that it is assanine for a person to do something but thats my opinion. Now if that person doesnt realize what potential damage could occur, I think it is our "duty" on this board to inform them of the potential problems, just because we can all learn from one another. However, in (and I hate to pick on you) PSD 6.0s case, he knows what he is doing, and, well, he knows the possible (or should i say probable ) problems. But he is an experimenter, he is plowing his own road. I say good for him and anyone else that has full knowledge of their undetaking.

I am not a paying supporter or a major contributor to this forum, this I can and will readilly admit. However, the knowledge Ive gained and the info I have asked about has been instrumental in my short life as a PSD owner.

The long and short of it is this..........This is an enthusiast forum........this is a forum for the people that love, use and abuse (in a good way) their trucks (with the occasional PSD hater). There is no room for politics of any kind, as much as that seems impossible these days. FTE has to remain as distant from politics as possible, otherwise, as we can all witness in everyday politics, nothing will get done

BTW, I was going to say something along the lines as what VIC said about the olds 350 diesel but i thought i must have been mistaken, but now i know what i heard about that engne was true......or so i believe. However, maybe the person who owned one had a good experience.......Interesting that one person loves a hated engine and is heard, while on here thousands of people love their 6.0s but it seems we only hear the hate.....

I never knew this would turn into what is has. We have some great information on this site. Take what you want, ignore what offends. People mod eveything because....well because they can. I see know reason in making a lawn tractor into a race car but I sure like to watch them (does that make me a redneck?) I understand a lift on a truck but over 12" lift???? Not for me but for you-ok

If people did not do modifications then where would we be...horse and buggy? No they were modified...walking? Hmmm modifications have been made for feet.

Mod what you want, shake your head at the unusaul, work towards a better place for yourself and others.

Rgonot, i just wana say that i apologize and this is not what the forum is (this thread). I had to unload because i am so politically minded that i can not stand seeing it EVERYWHERE, but it just happens. But, stay with us, everyone here has great info and i agree, ignore what offends us.........sometimes its just hard haha.

And by the way, i have an 04 with a Hog cat back with the predator at 65 hp tune (untill the recalls happened, i havent had my predator in for awhile, and im missing it but not that much, these new factory tunes are good). But i never noticed much black smoke with mine, but i have seen trucks with a lot. I think it depends on the programmer or fuel box, im guessing the fuel box would give more. But they dont help your tranny...........its a question of what you want like anything else

And yes, you are a redneck if u like a lawn tractor racing, but i love it too haha

No offense taken. I just wanted to know about Black Smoke. I got that and a whole lot more. Dont hold back on your posting-I am sure my opinions will offend someone somewhere.

Thanks for all the info guys. I think I will go for the exhaust first then do the chip thing once the factory warranty expires. How do you like the "HOG" cat back? ANy noticeable improvements? Sounds?

Yeah big improvement in noise, has a good sound and some V-8 burble its all stainless and i think its a pretty good setup. I got it from motorhaven, one of our sponsors. But make sure u get the 6 inch tip, mine came with the regular 4 inch and it wasnt as loud, but with the 6 inch i start mine up though eveyone says what the hell did u do? its loud for a few seconds then quiets right down, im guessing its the turbo spooling up.
