Many people that adjust/modify their engine to the point of excessive pollution, and fuel usage for power or noise is usually lacking in one or more of the following:
1) Low self confidence in relationships, society, or work.
2) Maturity.
3) Education.
4) Compassion.
5) Sexual dysfunction.

An excellent study was conducted by a Midwest University, on how individuals with low self esteem, resulting from the above list, would manifest their self into something they could control and enhance, in order to improve their self image. A modified truck was used as an example in the study.

To clarify the above statement, not everyone who modifies their truck to the extent of “black smoke or noise” falls into the above listed categories IF they require the additional power for work, or for a particular off-the-street task, like a truck show as an example. However, when you see someone driving a vehicle that is modified beyond reason, and is polluting the environment with smoke and/or noise, take this list and observe the driver/owner. I’m sure you can pick one of the five that fits his/her profile.

oh and yea i have the truck for work, and i need the chip becaz i pull campers and other kinds of trailers. so its kinda necessary. i agree to some extent about the low selfesteem but at the same time some people do it as a hobby, and people express themselves in different ways..some may like cars others have their own hobby.

I could be wrong but every person iv ran into that dont think highly of themselves dont draw attention to themselves in any way...no they try the exact opposite they dont want people to pay attention to them.

I think that may be one of the most arrogant, judgemental posts I have ever read on this forum.

Pretty ignorant to boot... Let's see if I can break this down on myself...

1) Low self confidence in relationships, society, or work. (Married for seven years to a beautiful woman that produced my handsome son. Marine. Good civilian job now. Guess that rules out #1 in your theory. I just try to be the best at whatever I do.)
2) Maturity. (32 yo. Immature? Maybe, but relative to who?
3) Education. (BS/BA)
4) Compassion. (For what or who?)
5) Sexual dysfunction. (See part one and two of number one. No viagra needed here. Not that that would matter. If you ask me, listing #5 is pretty discriminating and not very compassionate.)

I don't care for the black smoke on my own truck, but more power to the guys that do. No pun intended... I drive a 69 SS396 Camaro in addition to my 05 F350 PSD. Do I need either? Another relative question. Could I get by without either? Of course. Do I want to? Did I buy them in the first place?

I hate people that judge others based on a "study." Oops, was that not compassionate?

One other thing, was this "excellent study" conducted by that great thinking University in Michigan that is allowed to base their entrance decisions in part on a racist decision? Education was in your list. That University, just using that example, proves that having an education doesn't always indicate that a person or group of people is intelligent.

Quite insulting to be accused of having "small mans" syndrome for driving and modding a supeduty psd.I have modded most every vehicle i have owned since i was 18 years old, including chevelle ss454, and several 4x4 pickups. Ii personally dont care for gobs of black smoke unless someones tailgaiting of course .
But i do have a great time installing performance ehhancing products, and its just down right fun to see how fast you can make one of these TANKS go!

My strategy for these kinds of posts (meaning the dysfunction one) is to just ignore them and address the original post or general discussion in the thread.

Seems like a lot of you however have been put off by it. I'll try to keep an eye on it, but this is your forum too so please advise me if some moderation is needed/wanted here like locking the thread or deleting a post.

Post up your opinions or use the report post function. Alternately, you can always add to or subtract from a users reputation to show how you felt about one of their posts.

Just some ideas,

Daryl

Everyone is entitled to their opinion whether ignorant or not. We might be insulted and pissed off at the verbal vomit this pin head is spewing, but the only thing that should be done in my opinion is to respond to it or not. Although your heart is in the right place and we all appreciate it, censoring his thoughts and opinions wouldn't be right.

I pretty much discredited his coments when I read the following:

The word "Lacking" in the above quote is key. Lacking #1 and #5 is a good thing. Obviously he is lacking #3 because he can not write concisely enough to convey a simple point. By his rational, you are suffering from some complex if you strive to do more than just sustain your life.

I went to the U of M Engineering School for a couple of years. Thank God I transferred and got my BSME from a real school like WMU.
