I have an '89 F-250 XLT with a 7.something liter V8. A while back my cat conv went **** up and I didn't have money to get it replaced, so my friendly mechanic installed true duals without any cats. In the attached picture, i have setup A, with two pipes and a no-brand muffler on each. It sounds so nice, it brings tears to my eyes. BUT. But, I want to make it louder, so I can truly enjoy it. Again, in the picture, I'm thinking of going to setup B, by cutting off the piping after the mufflers. So please tell me, what do you think that will do in terms of sound, performance, etc.
if you do that, i will more than likely make it considerably louder in the cab, and youll smell the exhaust, and it might not be much louder. youd be better off just replacing the mufflers with glasspacks, or cherrybombs or whatever.
you got the 7.5L 460 v-8. It will be much louder. I had a side exit, but then cut the pipe after muffler off and got a turndown under the cab. You can try replacing mufflers like chrono said.
If you want a cheap and effective want to increase the volume just remove the tailpipes and run turndowns a few inches after the mufflers, that will open up the sound a bit.
ford lover, have you ever looked at the price of those things, from what ive heard, there pretty expensive, mabey im misinformed. what do they usually run?
Yeah, that's a bit ( a lot ) over my budget, I'm saving up for an ar-15 too
I dunno, maybe I should leave it. Plus, it just started making a wierd noise in the rear end yesterday and braking funny, so I should worry about that for now
Maybe I'll just cut them after the mufflers and tie them out of the way to see what it sounds like. I definitely could try that, it would only cost me 2 clamps.
It will be louder. My friend had his exhaust dump right after the mufflers on his Chevelle. A cop at a road block noticed that they didnt exit after the passenger area, so when he had to put the tailpipes back on, it made it noticably quieter.
