I'm getting my license in about a month and i want true duals with glasspacks but right now im broke, so i was thinkin about just cutting off the muffler until i can get some money...so if i cut off the muffler there would still be 2 cats so i would think that wouldnt be abnoxious loud...has anyone ever just cut off the muffler on a 5.0 truck??? How does it sound??
I did it on a crown vic with a 302-just left the cats there and ran tailpipes. It was definitely loud, you would want tailpipes. Unless you like a lot of cab resonation. It sounded kind of like loud flowmasters, but it was a little cackly like glasspacks. But more like flowmasters. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I didn't like my neighbors so much!
Well, i wont be driving my truck much until i get my license...and by the time i have my license i will have the money to do the exhaust how i want it...so its just temporary i really just wanna see what it would sound like
Well, do it then. You will probably think it's cool. It will sound like a racecar. Then by the time you get sick of it, you'll have enough dough to put mufflers on there, or tailpipes-and no harm done, right? And if you dont do it, you will always wonder if you should have run straight pipes or not. This way you will know.
I'm not sure, but I don't know that it'd be that loud. My buddy has a '96 F-150 with the 5.8L and it's straight piped from one cat back. It's not overly loud at all. I'm not sure on the exhaust configuration on your pickup, but I just don't know that it'll be overly loud. I guess there's only one way to find out...trial and error.
It's ridiculously QUIET! Man, I took a hacksaw to the muffler on my 5.0, then went and fired the truck up....A small rumble on light acceleration and idle, can't really hear it other than that.
Well my old man said i couldnt cut off the muffler but i can take it off....so i got everything unbolted and i sprayed WD-40 on it and got a pipe wrench and started twisting away...but i cant seem to get it loose, is there other way you guys suggest i take it off????
Get an air chisel and try to get it between the 2 pipes and work them loose. WD40 aint the best rust breaker, more of a lube. I believe that brake fluid is a rust breaker, most anything you buy will do good. There was a big thread a while ago. Heat, heat and more heat, then spray some rust breaker.
