ok everyone, i have a 99 f250 sd, 5.4L, and i have tried several different attempts to get a better sound. right now, i have a flowmaster 40 series, single in, dual out, and both outlets are dumped to the street just in front of the rear axle. the cat is also removed..... but i am taking it into the shop on tuesday to have the dumps switched over to pipes out to the rear, then tips put on. now, should i have them move the muffler to change the sound? does that make a difference at all? right now it is about 1.5 feet in front of where the stocker muffler was. im just not happy at all with these modular engines the way they sound.... the 318 mopar was WAY better !!! im trying to get a deep rumble, and they way it is set up now allows too much resonance in the cab. what are your opinions? sorry its so long, and thanks in advance !!!
Fords have a real problem with resonance in the cab, at least the late 80's and into the 90's did, mainly with the 460, I have been through a true dual setup, with both superturbos and glasspacks, now onto a 3" single in dual out setup and it sounds like it will be pretty much the same. Stupid part is the same mufflers have been on my dodge and it has no resonance and sounds better. Everyone has a different opinion of a deep rumble, to me a 5.2 Dodge with a 2.5" cat back and a Ravin Z-77 muffler is a deep rumble, to my buddy it is a 5.9 with a short SI DO glasspack 2.5" in 2.25". If you still hadthe cat I would say try the Z-77 but I don't know how it would sound. The single glasspack sounds like a V6 at highway speeds. LOL I actually just thought about this and a magnaflow would probly be about the sound you want.
i had a pair of stainless tips sitting around already, slant cut, 3.5" x 15 ". im gonna have them put on and see how it sounds. im sure it will help a lot. thanks for the advice !!!
