I just got my '97 XLT 4x4 4.6L, auto, with 80,000 miles on it 3-4 weeks ago (to the day actually). The previous owner replaced the ball-joints, calipers and rotors. Installed 32" Winston Winner LT tires on the optional aluminum 6-spoke wheels.

He has had a seat cover, floor mats, and a bedliner in it the week he drove it off the dealership lot.

He has kept records of every oil change, tranny flush, air filters....everything he's put into the truck.

My 97 Lariat with 4.6 auto has 150k+ miles on it now. I have had it 4 years and all I have done is had new lower ball joints installed and the front brake rotors turned.
This truck runs a good now as when I bought it. People are surprised when I tell them it's an 8 year old truck because it looks so good. Whoever owned it before me took great care of it.

Can I do that. I know that one of my front rotors is warped a little bit. People that I have talked to though said that i would half to turn both fronts and replace the pads too. Can I just turn the rotors?

Heat is what warps the rotors and heat is also bad for the brake pads, so yes, replace the pads too, they are cheap and while you have the tires and everything off would be a good time to replace them. Also, turn both rotors, if you dont you will just end up doing the other one later anyway. But for all intents and purposes, you dont HAVE to change pads and turn both rotors but no job is worth doing that is done the opposite of full slow.

Mine recently turned over 180k. I do my own maintenance. Only "major" stuff I've done since I've owned it is pads/rotors and both (pitman and idler) steering arms. Of course, the truck was bone stock when I bought it so I've done a slew of little mods here and there. Just put on some diamond cut clear headlights on. Makes it look like an '04.

Well, i think so far i have the most miles, but i'm sure someone on here has more. I've got 246,108 right now, i looked at it before i came in the house for some odd reason, and it stuck in my head. oh yea, 1997 4.6L. Runs good, prolly gonna tear somethin up on it now that i got 305/70/r16s but it'll be alright.

Do I have to do anything to the rear brakes? Or can I just let them be.

If they are not causing any problems, just let them be. After you take care of the fronts, if the truck still shakes when braking, the rears are the place to look.

I have 118000 miles on my 97 F150. Its become a POS since it hit 100,000 miles. I hope to get rid of it soon. I can't trust it anymore.
