Had the head fixed so it doesn't leak oil, front rotors, new starter (got bad because of oil leak), had rear window fixed from leaking (it still leaks), had power locks fixed, had multifunction switch replaced due to wipers coming on randomly, changed plugs at 105k, replaced back coil on pass side due to coolant leak back there
other than that, everything else is bone stock...even the ball joints and tie rod ends which i have heard these are unsafe and can break while driving? I got a notice in the mail about it...is this something that I should have looked at? I also currently have the cruise disconnected for the recall
I have 140.000 on my 97 f150 4x4. Still looks very good for it's age other than light scratches from limbs and brush. ( It IS a 4x4 that gets used). I did have to replace the engine at 134,000 with a re-man from Ford. But I make the truck pull a 10,000 lb trailer pretty often, it does have to work pretty hard when it does that. A few modifications, but mostly stock. .410 gears, Hypertech programmer and heavy duty springs and air bladders. I think I will keep it a few more years.
240k on my, well not yet, 1997 f150 xtended cab with the 4.6l v8
ONly thing replaced was the cracked tranny case (finding a fishing spot error...relised 3 years later)
I let a girl drive my truck...she backed it off an enbankment. Leaving the suspension at articulations i didnt think was possible...now the alignement is messed up.
Ive got 70mph through a cattle field (Yes im a stupid teenager) but its fast heehe.
It floods annualy and we drive it through water up to the head lights..maybe over. LIve on a gravel road. We let the dust build up until we get pulled over for the license plate not being legible (dust covered it up)
Then my dad puts upwards of 500 miles on it a week, 120 miles a day..give or take

hey man i had one let go on me its not good. they are cheap dont have them looked at replace them...you need them..remember they are how you turn without them the wheel is free to go where it wants...
Mine recently turned over 180k. I do my own maintenance. Only "major" stuff I've done since I've owned it is pads/rotors and both (pitman and idler) steering arms. Of course, the truck was bone stock when I bought it so I've done a slew of little mods here and there. Just put on some diamond cut clear headlights on. Makes it look like an '04.
So what was the trick to the diamond cut headlights?
1998 ext cab 8ft box with 295000k or 183000miles. several front brake pads and rotors. new alternator. front drivers sway bar etc. and 59 oil changes. I heard you can get a new truck from Ford if you can turn the odomitor over (999,999)= 0,000,000
I had two chevy vans in the 70's and tuned the odomitors over on both. But that was
(99,999)miles.
Then sell them with only 45th miles on
A US gallon is smaller than a Canadian Gallon, is a US mile shorter than a Canadian mile?
Last edited by DMch; Dec 2, 2005 at 05:12 PM.
Reason: numbers
The old Canadain gallon is a Imperial gallon and the US gallon is from the old british gallon The Queen Anne gallon. according to this site. http://home.clara.net/brianp/usa.html
When we travel in the US our gas tanks can hold more than in Canada, according to the gas pumps, before we changed to metric.
If that statement about Ford giving you a free new truck if you turn yours over 1 million...anybody ever try it? Whats the most miles on this board? Does this statement apply only to an untouched motor internally? Or does it include rebuilds...I mean I can see how you can turn 1 million on the TRUCK itself but not on the motor...
