Sorry if this thread has already been discused and I missed it, but can anyone tell me what needs to be done to swap over to mass air. Have a friend with a 96 he is selling and is willing to swap parts.
Yep, don't waste your time and money. There will be more to it than just swapping parts. The way to do the swap would be to use the Mustang A9L PCM and convert to sequential injection. Still too much work and probably not a good idea on a daily driver.
yeah, its a good idea but not feasible. i know a few people on here were trying to see if a tWeeCer would work to custom tune the EFI...but nothing came outta that.
As mentioned the 4.9 mass air isn't the holly grail as one might expect.
If your serious about upgrades, there are chip companies willing to work with you on setting up your speed density right. Last time I checked though and this wasn't long ago, a couple companies requested I sent my actual eec so they could "crack it". Unlike a crappy chip off ebay, this one wouldn't just up the timing, it would take into consideration the cam, head work, exhaust, etc. have the maps adjusted accordingly. Dyno time would be ideal.
Californina switched to mass air a couple years before the rest of the states went mass air in 96, you can go to car-parts.com and probably get a junkyard to hook you up, if thats something you wanna do.

Gimme some time. I've got lots going on right now and the truck has been moved to the back burner for another few months. Once I get some things taken care of I'll be right back on top of that.
Have you considered building your own efi controller?
Probably have but if not, check out the following links, the first is the least expensive and the info/ bulletin board is easy to follow, the second costs a little more (actually a spin off of the original megasquirt), the board is not as easy to follow, yet offers a couple more features (or did), as compared to the MS. Again, good luck
Ah, at least give the first link a chance, look it over real good about 10 times, , you might be suprised how doable it is. Last I checked, a person could assemble the controller for $200 or so, then you can program it until your fingers fall off using a lap top. Suprisingly there aren't that many connections to make from the old eec to the MS contrller, there are people who've successfully ran this on a 4.9 engine, maybe if you get that interested, they may offer a base tune to get you started, possibly. You can also purchase the controller pre assembled, prices vary but they are under $500, then you make the connections from the old eec to the new controller, do a couple little things to get the MS to understand the ford sensor parameters, then your off...
Yeah, easier said than done but doable.
