I have a 63 1/2 ton 4WD and i need to replace the transmission yokes . LMC wasn't very helpful. anybody have an idea where to look? Most parts houses don't even have books anymore that go back that far. Has anyone else had any luck with the sleeve that is pressed onto the old yokes? Thanks
Arer you talking about the bushing or sleeve in the end of the tailshaft? If so, most Ford dealer have them still or can order them. I came up with part number 01Y 4841 for the yoke.
I think he is refering to a "speedy or redi-sleeve" that is a thin piece of stainless that is pressed over the worn area of the yoke seal surface. The yoke is likely only from a wrecking yard or, as barry found, at an obsolete parts vendor. It might possibly be available from the maker of the transfer case?
Good deduction Putt!
I was wondering what he was referring to and you're probably right. Although I don't know as they "press" on all that much. What had me stuck is why those yokes need R&R-ing since he stated no reason for it. He may be changing drive line components around, or have broken or damaged the yokes or flanges or whatever.
Having said that, I've been able to purchase yokes at good independent Jobbers, all along for most things I mess with. Tranny Mfgr's usually buy stuff like bearings, yokes bushings, and gaskets from Outside Suppliers. A Company here, Crane Carrier Corp or CCC makes trucks mobile cranes are mounted on. I'm amazed at selection of bearings, bushings, flanges, O-Rings, seals, yokes, U-Joints et al they carry or can get.
Sorry I was not more specific on the yokes. the reason they need repair or replacement is that over the years the area where the seal meets the yoke is worn down to where the seal will no longer does the job. I replaced all of the seals but it still leaks and when i had it apart I noticed the groove in the yoke so I'm assuming the only way to fix the problen is replacement.
I have used the speedi-sleeves and had good luck with them. You might try getting one and trying it on a yoke first. They can seal up a fairly worn area if installed carefully.
You can get speedi sleeves at most good parts stores. Just measure the good area of the yoke and they can look one up to fit. It may be cheaper and be faster just to replace the yoke.
