Charles, you can have a firm shifting C-6, this makes for longer trans life without boosting pump pressure. Shift kits that boost pump pressure is like you having high blood pressure, you'll live but a shorter life. Man needs two trucks, one for play and one that's "practical" a daily driver unless money and gas bills aren't a problem.

Thanks Beemer, I,ll let him stiifen it up while he has it. I do have more than 1 truck. I have 4 at the moment 2005 F350 Super duty Diesel Crew cab long bed 4x4, 1973 F250 Custom 390 4 barrel C6 2wd and a sweet 72 F250 Ranger Camper Special 390 2barrel C6 2wd. They all run but the 72 and 73 are not registered or insured at the moment. I just drive em at my farm when I go down there. This 67 is going to be my sons first truck
Yes, the firmer an auto shifts, the longer the clutches will last. Any slippage wears the clutches, so making it snap into gear will make it slip less. Just watch since you don't want it to be obnoxiously firm all the time. My old MX was TERRIBLE for this. I hated it!!!!(just another reason to put the ol 4 spd in).
Well not to be O/T..but its in the ballpark...FastTexan post a link for Advanced Adapter's..And they have (now ) an adapter to put a AOD ford unit behind a FE Motor! For about $500 and it includes a new starter?? I couldnt find all the info on it..I 'll have to call Michigan to my Tranny guy and see if I cant find out more??
Cause I know alot of parts he did in my C6 for the Stang and the one for the Truck came from AOD units!! Food for thought!!
Just home from dragging my 67 up to the tranny shop. My wife pulled me with her explorer and it was her first pull lol.She did great. My boss is building a race 64 galaxie and he had a flex plate off of a 63 352 galaxie with a C3 or cruise_o_matic in it original. He though it might fit mine and so does my tranny shop and its in perfect shape so I might save 50 bucks in this deal. I got home and UPS had delivered my Jegs Pro starter so I,ll carry it up to him tomorrow. I was going to drag it back home and install the starter and bolt the header back on but my tranny guy must have been in a good mood today because he said he'd do it for the same price so I said do it.

I've seen that adapter as well but the 385-series boys always give the AOD a bad rap for being a weak tranny. I've never understood that because, like you said, a lot of the drums, clutches, etc. are the same as used in the C6. In fact the tranny rebuild book I have covers the C6 and AOD together. I have no personal experience with the AOD, just repeating what I've read in other forums.
Well the tranny shop called and said my engine was locked up. They found it when they had to turn the engine to get at the TC. They got the tranny out and I told him to go ahead with it and I towed the 67 home. Pulled the valve covers and the lifters and rods look good. Drained the oil pan and got 2 gallons of anti-freeze and 5 quarts of oil. Far as I have went with it. I,ll go to my farm and oull that 390 in my 72 F250 Out this weekend. I,ll carry it to my machinist/ rebuilder and see what it needs. Thanks guys for all your help
