hi guys i replaced my starter a few times on my 1976 f250 highboy with a FE block .....i have headman headers.... the headers are fairly close to the starter...i put like a piece of tin there so it keeps the heat away for temporary, but it worked, but i took it off recently because i replaced myheader gaskets.... i didnt put it back in,, now it finnaly fried again,..
what im trying to get at here is are there any startrs that solve this problem like the high tourque mini starters? i bought a mini starter last time and the fker didnt even fit..,. maybe it was the wrong FE starter....it said 390 428 360.....
please let me know what kinda starters are best...the motor is a 65-76 ( later FE )
mini starters will handle the heat much better. Also, where are you buying your starters? If you say auto zone, advance etc. etc. you maybe doing it to yourself right there. If you make a heat shield use Aluminum, it will dissipate heat much better. Good luck.
Lets see if this works it's about 1.1/2" to get the mini out. I went to the mini when installing the nv4500 5spd. It was ez then. There is no way in hell to remove the om stock starter with these headers installed. orich
