I'm currently in the process of swapping out the drivetrain in the Ranger...again. As of the moment the transmission of choice is a ZF S542 5 speed. I'm uncertain of which t-case will work best, low range is of no worry on ratio, I have enough power to spin about anything. I have a NP208 sitting in the basement which is a tad too big, I can shave a few tabs on the case and regretfully notch and gusset the bottom of the frame. I haven't seen an NP205 yet, is it smaller than an NP208? If anyone has one could they get a quick measurement for me so I can see if it's worth a few days search for a NP205. Thanks a bunch.
From the center of the output shaft to the edge of the case is about 14.5". They need supported on the side because they are so heavy. I don't think you would be at an advantage, except for the strength of the case. Either will be a pain. Good luck
The one dimension you may not have considered is weight. 205s are frightfully heavy, at least 150 lbs. They are certainly more compact than 208s, but I'm away from my truck right now, so I can't measure it for you. Sorry
I just bought an NP205 last nite. Yep it's heavy but I need all the stregnth I can get. This truck has to be bullet proof. It is much smaller than the NP208 so Im in good shape now. Thanks for the help guys.
