I will go ahead and retract my statement about Mallory being made in Japan, I was thinking of Accel stuff. I know for a fact that Accel makes their products in Japan, and from experience I can say that almost nothing they (Accel) make is as good as stock.
For $131, my 6A box has proven itself to be an outstanding, reliable performer that I'm very happy with. I will only echo my statement that Dyno testing has shown time and time again that there is no performance difference between the two systems, and I'll also incorporate that if analog does have a longer service life, then why would you pay for something that you don't need, and will burn out quicker. I, for one, repair my charging system when I can't make 13.5 volts even at idle, so whatever it does below that is of rare consequence to me.
The funny thing is that we're arguing about the last .05% of improvement here. Either system is far better than stock, and if you look at the total specturm here, the difference between the two is so miniscule that it will never effect you. Upgrading to either system is like setting you a mile ahead, and now we're talking about if the Mallory landed 5,280 feet and 1", as opposed to 5,280" even. Go with the one that is the cheapest, and will be the cleanest setup. TK
You are right TK. Please don't take my Mallory statement as anti-MSD. MSD makes great stuff, and their Tech help is second to none. MSD also makes a digital setup that is also great. If you don't spin your engine above 6000 rpms and your electrical system is up to snuff, analog is great, and you get just as much power. I feel that analog is tougher than digital (I have nothing concrete to back this up), however, digital works best for me. In my warehouse, MSD out-sells Mallory 5 to 1, easy. I have also read that write-up where no improvement was found between brands. I think they tested MSD, Mallory, Accel, Crane and Holley. Minor difference at best.
I am not too fond of Accel stuff (They are also owned by Mr. Gasket, same owners of Mallory). Once again, nothing concrete. MSD, Mallory and Holley are the way to go. Nice thing about MSD too, is that they offer adapters for just about everything.
