Distributors

Who makes the best distributor. MSD, mallory, HEI or other brands. ive heard HEI distributors suck after 4500 rpm. I've heard MSD is either the best or it's the crappiest. anyone know which brand is the best?

No, HEI units don't "suck" after 4500......MSD has been through bankrupcy & buyout...would wait till things settle over there.....Ive never been that big of a fan of their products for street use.

OEM distributors are excellent with proper tuning.....

the OEM style are good for 5500 rpm +

Like Beech said OEM distributors are actually the best bet. If a new distributor is needed, look into Performance Distributors.

What are good performance distributors? You know my build. Will an OEM distributor be just as good as an MSD or should I go with MSD or a different performance distributor?

"Performance Distributors" are a sponsor of this forum.

They sell conventional distributors and their DUI line of hei style one wire distributors.

Sorry, when I typed that I thought that might be confusing.
Performance Distributors - Performance Distributors

I would not go with an MSD. "They" say that stands for "My Spark Disappeared". Performance Distributors has large cap Durasparks ready to go.

It's up to you. Some of the components in the Cardone may not be a good quality. Is there something wrong with OEM one?

The one that came off of the engine had oil beneath the rotor under the cap so that thing is toast. I figured a reman distributor would be best if I'm going oem.

Agreed, that's not a big deal. You may check into seeing if Performance Distributors can rebuild yours. I know they sell complete units but I think they also do rebuilds.

If you have the means to press in new shaft bushings and ream them to size.
Then, yeah, a gear, an O-ring, a new pickup....
