Smile More V10 Y-pipe

I would like to tell anyone who is looking to upgrade there 00and up y-pipe to check the web for a company called STAN'S HEADERS.They dont list the y-pipe but if you email or call them they sell a mandrell bent weld in section to replace the restricted section.I installed one on my 03 F250 and it pulled much better the only downside was the loud raspy noise form the exhaust in the mid range rpms.I have tried all different flowmasters, glasspacks, cats, etc.I ran the y-pipe for one year and ended putting a stock set up back on it beacuse of the loud flutter ,ricer sound.I spoke to Stan directly about the exhaust sound and was told that they sell several of these 10 y-pipe and that the sound of the engine.

Welcome to FTE

Thats why I have stayed with the stock Y pipe, Ford got rid of my flutter with a Y pipe change and I didn't want it back.

Dan, welcome to FTE.

Yeah, the V10 definitely has it's own unique sound. It took me a little getting used to, especially after I put the FM's on and you could actually hear it. There have been several different descriptions of it's sound, but I think captchas hit it right on the head when he said it sounded like two 5 cyl VW's or something to that effect.

There have also been a few posts about what folks thought was flutter, but turned out to be the inspection plate at the bellhousing. Apparently it has a tendency to vibrate in the mid rpm range as well.

Dan if you want to here a strange sound start your truck up with the cat only, I did and it was not pretty, it sounded a lot better with the Banks cat back on it.

If you have the true exhaust flutter you will know it, it comes from the right side and it sounds like a lifter but it only mid range RPMS.

What you might be hearing in the ex. noise is the remainder of what is called the carno cycle of the internal comb. eng. along with the sterling cycle. mass air flow, combustion and exhaust as we all should know work 2 gether and when changed tend to alter the sound. with this said the v-10 in particular will emit an un usual resonance due to the change because what is being heard is the remaining burn on the combustion cycle. Yes the best change you can make is in enlarging the ex. to a lgr. size although sacrifice comes along with this mod. in the nature of exh. noise being heard that normaly would not. I did some research on this subject and was told the info above is why you hear it this way or is some of the reason.
