I had to move today from Va to South Carolina. I always run Shell V-power,93 octane. I think I must have gotten some bad gas, because coming up a pretty decent hill, it started "pinging", detonation, what ever you care to call it, as soon as I heard it, I let off the gas, but now it misses real bad at idle to about 1500 rpm. It feels ok up from that, but not "exactly right. My first thought was a burnt valve, but you don't hear the popping in the exhaust. It just really misses bad. ,Oh yeah, I have a whipple on it, and a SCT 4 bank chip. Only 2 banks on the chip are programmed, no difference. Could the chip itself have gone bad? any and all suggestions are appreciated.
Not really, I had gone 50-60 miles since I filed it up. It was right in the middle of this pretty good sized hill, and I filled it up twice since then. I feel so "dumb:" about these new engines, I really dont know where to start.
I just went through the same thing and it turned out to be a bad COP. Mine would miss under load when it was under 2000 rpm. I replaced all my plugs while I was at it. The truck has 68,000 miles on it and the plugs and COPS were all original. Just something to consider.
Took the truck to a shop today. Found out 4&5 cyl have NO compression. Plugs were melted and very black. They are going top tear it down and see what the damage is. Mechanic says I may have paid for 93 octane, but most likely di not get it. As soon as I head the detonation, it was probably too late. If the trans and stuff would work, I think I.d put a oil burner in it.
