I have a 1997 F-350 crewcab 4x4 7.3 automatic with 150000 mi. The truck has a Banks IC kit on it. I took out banks chip and put in a Edge chip I had ( from a long time ago. It is a first gen. model chip) it has been on there about 9 months. But a strange thing happens VERY RANDOMLY and not often, but when it does the transmission will hang in first till max RPM either going on flat road or up hill. while hold pedal at a constant pressure it will just stay in 1st till I let off the gas then it will shift normal. It only does it in first gear. The trans shifts normal and great the rest off the time. It is a rebuilt trans not sure how many actual mi. on it. ( Jasper trans.) it has Alum. deep sump pan. Nothing else seems an issue on trans.
On a related note with banks kit is a trans control box that is wired to trans. If I get new 6 pos. chip it will allow me set trans functions as I want. will I have to remove that Banks controller???
Could this banks controller be an issue with the shifting????
So, does that mean you have a banks trans command on and an edge chip? I'm sure that would cause problems. I'd take all that crap off to put it back stock, test, and if everything works as it should, get a good chip.
It did it while I had the original banks chip in. It only happens about once a month or other month, it is really weird. How can I take off the banks commander unit?? Do I just unplug it at the controller? Or do I have to unplug somewhere else?

I really don't know. I'd talk to banks and ask them. It's always best to have any chips/etc. removed when diagnosing a problem related to that.
to remove the banks command you have to do some rewiring on the connector. go to the banks website and it has the instructions on how to install it and just do the reverse to get it back to stock. it's three wires that you have to pull out of the trans command connector and place back into the stock connector. My truck came with that module when I bought it and I took it out to install a transgo shift kit.
Hope this makes sense, it's not as hard as it sounds and the instructions at the banks website are pretty good to follow
