hey all,i thinkkkkk i might have Tendinitis in my elbow. This is the second time in a 3 months or so its happened. From what ive read its the classic symptoms. Very painful cant extend my arm all the way. Is there any treatment or tricks i can do on this to help the pain? or is it just one of those things i have to wait out for it to go away, any tips will be grrrrrreatly appreciated!
Yeah, my husband uses horse linament for a recuring tendonitis and painful shoulder muscles.
Accupuncture helped me with my left shoulder after developing this from overtraining lifting one semester. Went to two classes a day and just plain over doing it.
Bursitis is just as bad as tendonitis....if not worse. Got that after the first time I handsewed eight dagger scabbards using a leather awl and waxed thread. Could not "MOVE" hardly for a couple of days as my shoulders were so sore. Took a week to finally leave.
Get yourself an adjustable strap (about 3 inches wide) and secure it snugly (but not too tight!) around the top of your forearm. This will relieve much of the tenderness. I battled with tendonitis for years...this seemed to provide the best relief, aside from physical therapy.
The big thing with me was figuring out just what caused it and avoiding it. The strap helped relieve the pain once it was there but avoiding causing the pain was a better "cure".
First off where is the pain? What were the signs and symptoms that your have so far? What caused it to occur?
If you have pain on the medical (middle) side you have the common tennis elbow.
If you have pain on the lateral side (outside) then you have golfers elbow.
If your pain is directly in the middle of the arm and it hurts to curl your whole arm up, then you have bicep tendonitis. If the pain transgresses past the elbow then you could have strained/sprained a supinator (like using a spoon to drink soup) or pronator (moves the opposite way as the supinator.
The best thing that you can do, other then getting ultrasound, is rest, ice and anti-inflammatory medicine (Advil - ibuprofen, Alive – Neproxin sodium). Here is a trick that I use with my athletes and it speeds up the healing time. Take a paper cup and put it into the freezer with ¾ filled up with water. Use it as a direct ice source on the effected area, but also add some Flex-all 454 to the site. I d have only used Flex-all, but some others way work as long as they are a lotion. Slowly work it into the area for five to seven minutes. Repeat it twice a day and it should help. The bad thing about tendonitis is that due to the construction of a tendon it takes a long time to heal. There is little blood flow to the area and thus any effected tendon takes a long time to heal.
hey there, thanks for the advice so far guys and gals! Aztrainer, the pain in right smack in the middle of my elbow, right at the joint. but it doesnt hurt when i curl my arm up,i can do that fine,i just cant extent it at all past a certain point,i cant make my arm straight. Its like i hit a brick wall,it just wont move anymore past this point. Im getting ready just to saw my arm off!
Do you remember how it occurred? Where you lifting something and then it started hurting after?
It sounds like a sprain/strain of the bicepital tendon at the origin of the joint at the elbow. Try the ice-cup and flex-all and you may be surprised at the results. Rest is also another thing that you should try with an anti-inflammatory chaser.
Having had a few BAD cases on tendonitis, I can vouch for the "takes time to heal" advice, and give it rest and take NSAID (Ibuprofen works best for me.)As mentioned, blood flow is limited and healing can take a looonnnggg time.
And, seems once you have subjected a tendon to strain (over use) it is prone to reoccur in the future.
I have had GREAT results from a single cortisone steroid injection directly at the injury site. More 'n a little painful at the time but the results were well worth the discomfort.
I pulled a hamstring right at the point where it all ties in at the upper back of my leg, just under my butt muscles.
It took about 3 years to get to the point where I could forget it had ever happened.
It hurt.... a long time.
