For about the last 4 weeks I've been bothered with a ringing or hissing in my ears that comes and goes. However for the last few days it's been pretty much constant. The medical term for this is "tinnitus" and from what I've been able to find on the internet there are a lot of causes and cures. Has anyone here been bothered with this and what did you do to stop it?
Been bothered by it for years. Caused by long term regular doses of Aspirin. Had to take for over 8 months due to a nerve inflammation in my hip. Since then, ringing in the ears, although most of the time I don't really notice it. Guess I have gotten used to it.
Uk1050, good description. I've had mine for quite a while, I really only notice it when the room/environment is really quiet. Other than that, I have excellent hearing. I think mine is probably from too much loud music as a teen. That's how Ted Nugent got his supposedly.
I've had it for years, but it's not that extreme. I guess it can be really "loud" for some people. I've worked in many loud environments and my folks didn't do much for ear infections. My hearing's down across the board and takes a dip at 3-4K.
Tinnitus can also be a symptom of Meniere's Disease, a serious disease of the inner ear. If it is accompanied by any other sympton like temporary hearing loss, a "full ear" feeling, spinning, head aches, dizziness or anything else out of the ordinary, or if anyone in your familyhas had these problems, you should definitely get it looked at by a specialist.
Have had ringing for over thirty years. It sounds like a high pitched whistle. I have to sleep with the tv or radio on to cover it up. Just before I fall asleep, or if I go to bed exhausted, the ringing will get so loud that it will keep me awake.
If I have a cold and my ears get stopped up I can not hear much of anything except the ringing.
Huh? What did you say? Can you repeat that? (with hand cupped around ear)
I'm about 15dB down with the dip being about -45dB. I need to get checked again, allergies make it worse. Mine sounds like about a 3KHz tone, way off in the distance. Seems to be more on the left side. It sounds like a whistle with a slight oscillation. Some descibe it as being really loud. I'm glad mine not like that, not like you an stick your fingers in your ears to stop it.
I'm 27 now and had it since I was about 15 or 16. Firearms, farm equipment, machine shop work, coupled with a few nasty ear infections brought it on. It gets pretty loud on me at times especially in quiet surroundings. Somehow I always managed to show a full range of hearing in the yearly tests they used to administer in school, so mine must not be as severe as some. I'm VERY careful with my hearing now.
