I'm using Power Service, Diesel Kleen grey during summer months and Power Service Diesel Kleen White in the winter months. I am unsure as to the cost as it really isn't much for the gallon bottles at Wallieworld. It does seem to make a difference in mileage, performance and startups in my experience.
I was using it part time to try it out, and just started using it full time as I did notice good results.
I use power service in the winter to combat the witerized fuel and so i don't have to worry about gelling up. I getmy diesel fuel from Meijer, not only are they the cheapest, but they sell a bunch of it. I have never been there where I didn't have to wait in line or there was no one behind me waiting. I have used PS in the summer, but see no difference in mpg or performance like I do when with the winter blend diesel.
Power Service, gray for summer, white for winter. Don't know if it is any better than Stanadyne, but don't really care. Its easy to find, just about all truck stops have it, as well as China Mart. It is made in Texas, which I have never left anything behind there (should arouse some of you Texans), but it is an oilfield state, which happens to be my business. Ryan
I did for a while there but did not see any real results. I used the Power Service white because it is in EVERY fuel station I go to. Price varies but I didn't see the benefit.
I have been looking for Stanedyne but have not found it. I guess I will have to check in China Mart to see if they have it to give it a try.
I see alot of posts indicating that folks have noticed no difference in mileage with power service. I gained 1-2 mpg with grey. Really. It may be coincidence now that I have a few miles on the engine and she's loosening up. I dunno, but mileage did go up on my PSD.
I'm using Power Service, Diesel Kleen grey during summer months and Power Service Diesel Kleen White in the winter months. $10.99 at Tractor Suppply. It does seem to make a difference in mileage, performance and startups. I was using it part time to try it out, and just started using it full time as I did notice good results.
I buy the big jug of Power Service's Diesel Kleen at Tractor Supply for less than $10 a jug; 96 oz I think. I transfer it to a small Diesel Kleen container; I dump half this container at every fill-up which is usually 28-30 gallons. I might be seeing 1/2 MPG improvement; I don't use it for the MPG edge; I'm looking for prevention of soot problems. There is a post somewhere that indicates fuel additives help prevent soot problems with EGR in VW diesel engines.
I was using Shell DFA and I would see a good .5 to 1 MPG improvement with same. I think it is now off the market (no longer on the Shell web-site); last time I bought it was about 4 jugs from Wal*Mart when they clearanced it about 8 months ago. That stuff was hard on plastic; it even discolored the Line-X bed liner I had in my previous 95 Chevy 6.5 TD.
I used to use Stanadyne, but had to purchase it online...no dealers locally. I switched to Power Service in the gray bottle for the summer/fall use. I will likely order some Stanadyne Winter formula before winter. My father in law uses Power Service in the white bottle in the winter for his tractor, but I never had a problem at all using Stanadyne during the winter so I'll probably stick with that. I occasionally fill up at Meijer's (which advertises adding Shaeffer's to their diesel), but I still add my own. I figure it doesn't hurt to add more lubricity and disperse water! Better safe than sorry. 35k and counting.
How much if any winter blend difference is there in a climate like AZ? I don't see gelling to be a problem, but maybe I should consider using grey and white diesel kleen.
