It is astonishing to me that you found someone that actually knew what cetane value they had in the first place.
If you are getting 50 cetane fuel you are doing better than most, especially since cetane typically plateaus at just above 50... Now you need to know if their additive also adds to lubricity values as well. Probably does.

The cetane values are posted on the pumps. Regular diesel only had a posted cetane of 40. I have to take that at face value of course. The valvetech additive does have lubricity as well as water dispersing values. A friend has been buying 55 gallon drums of this additive for his trucks and machines (Demolition Company), and has never had a fuel related issue such as waxing or water problems in his equipment for the last 15 years. They are sticklers on the maintenance though!
I wish cetane values were posted on all pumps. Most of us have no idea what the dealer is giving us. One reason why additives are important, in most regions.
Sounds like you have a really good fuel supplier. The fuel/additve package you are buying at the pump seems to be a much better value than 40 cetane fuel + off the shelf additive.
When's it "ok" to begin using a DFA? I've got 6200 miles now and would like to use Diesel Kleen. BTW, all the pumps in my area are listed at 40 cetane.
I use Amsoil Diesel Additive about 6 bucks for 16 oz. 2 oz. is good for 5 gallons. Didn't notice much difference in mileage though. Didn't have a problem last winter though.
I see alot of posts indicating that folks have noticed no difference in mileage with power service. I gained 1-2 mpg with grey. Really. It may be coincidence now that I have a few miles on the engine and she's loosening up. I dunno, but mileage did go up on my PSD.
I will reply to my own post as I feel obligated to correct myself.
I have recently determined that my mileage gains are a result in my lighter foot when using diesel kleen. I guess that I was living a wish, subconsciously, after adding it, and reacted with gentler accelerator action. There still is a slight gain in mileage but not as much as I expressed earlier. Just thought I had better set the record straight after calculating my last fill up. Sorry for the misleading info.
Does Ford say "no additive needed" not knowing our nationwide cetane levels? But tells us the 6.0 is designed to opperate on 46+?
They have recanted since printing our manuals.
Lacks or Loses Power in Cold Temperatures: This may be due to fuel gelling or moisture freezing and reducing fuel flow. It is recommended to use a fuel conditioner, such as Stanadyne Performance Formula, to prevent this condition. Do not use conditioners that contain alcohol. Broadcast Message 0436.
Cold Temperature, Lack of Power, Poor Economy, Hard Start, Excessive White Smoke: This could be due to gelling of the fuel, formation of ice in the fuel tanks or lines or poor fuel quality. If diagnosis finds no cause for the above symptoms, try using a fuel conditioner, such as Stanadyne Performance Formula or equivalent, that will improve the cetane level of the fuel. Do not use any product containing alcohol. If the conditions improve with the additive, then find another fuel source or continue to treat the fuel. Broadcast Message 1309, 1464; SSM #17406.
Standyne every tank since break in, going to give power service it's day in court if I can ever figure out what the difference between the different bottles are.
"It is made in Texas, which I have never left anything behind there (should arouse some of you Texans), but it is an oilfield state, which happens to be my business."
I sure thought that all of you Texicans would have had more to say about this post. I try to support the industry that has been very good to me for the last several years.
I guess thats why I don't complain much about this whole gas/oil price issue much. I have tried in a non political way to inform a lot of people here (the people in the 6.0 forum are more open minded when it comes something non politicaly black and white, or rather black or red, you guys just seem to "get it") One would have a very different point of view if you got to see it from the inside.
When you look at Stanadynes web site they never state level of cetane enhancement. Or how many cetane units you gain in a given ratio. They do show a chart which leaves a lot to the imagination.
In any case, they are both good products...couldn't tell about costs since I never pushed it that hard. The bottom line for me, between these two, is PS is more readily available since I am not much for buying a case at time over the Internet.
